The local Wal-Mart is selling Colt LE6920 rifles. I read an blurb somewhere that perhaps the WalMart models don't have a law enforcement "roll mark." I'm new to the world of AR's, and don't know what this means. If true, frankly, does it make any difference one way or the other.

Thanks in advance.

From what I have read the" law enforcement and military use only roll mark" was discontinued.

http://www.facebook....128874547205025 dated 5 Aug 2011.

This will end with that production run.

The 6920s and 6940s will be serial marked with SPXXXXX

It means you will a 6920 without that roll mark.

Its still a Colt 6920 AR-15 and a good rifle.

so then functionally there's nothing different between the LE and SP rifles, correct? both are 6920 models

Its from Colt Defense which is split into a military and law enforcement and civilian sales. They make the rifles. Some get the stuff military needs and The Sporter series does not. So yes your are getting a rifle made by Colt. It is now called the Sporter Series. The military modelsgets stuff like a Grenade launcher cutout and other things.

I heard their price was $1100? The last pricing I saw was $1185 for the LE6920. I see that they have A 5.56/.333 chamber, 1-7 twist, chrome lined barrel, DI, M4 stock, Adjustable sights and a bayonet lug with an A2 flash hider, So yes it is a M4 style rifle. I see no difference other than the roll marks.

I haven't purchased or priced an AR-15 one in a while so I don't know what the market is like. if these are hard to find and its $1100 and you want one buy it if you cant find it available or at a lower price.. I would if I needed another AR-15. Look around online and locally and see what the availability and pricing is. It would not surprise me to see that places are out of stock on these. I think the lowest online price I have seen was around $995.00. You might be able to find some around $925.00?

DSG Arms is currently out of stock, but they offer the 6920 for $995. They get some in every now and then. You can also check out Clyde's Armory. They have both the 6920 and the 6720 in stock. The 6720 is the light weight barrel version.

FWIW, they list the 6920 as LE6920 with the "M4 Carbine" roll mark that I believe they started going late last year around the same time as they started producing the CA compliant and MOE versions/variants.

If you're really interested in the roll marks, I suggest you call them. But it is my understanding that you get pretty much the same basic gun just with a different roll mark. There are some who feel that the "LE Restricted" roll marks are a liability and some that view it as a rarity/novelty that adds value. I think you'll be getting a quality gun in either case.

That said, depending on what price your local Walmart is offering the Colt 6920, there are also guns from other high quality manufacturers to choose from if the pricing is much higher than say $1100 or so.

yes, the price was $1097. still looking around at all the options out there, but it seems that the local gun stores are thinning the herd so to speak on AR inventory. there's a few dealers here on the front range of colorado that generally have lots (5280 armory, jensen arms) that seem to have fewer and fewer each time, and the ones they have are often the high end models. buds doesn't have any of these, but thanks for the links to the in-stock and other sources.

i'm new to the AR realm (not to shooting) and would like to pick one up before the hysteria gets out of hand (the hysteria has started i believe)--local gun show reports are wall-to-wall people with high prices.

I'm not wed to the colt and was really looking for a SR556 Essential, but those are tough to find locally. I like the looks of the M&P optics ready model. Frankly, i'm open to anything and have reviewed the "which AR to get" threads and have found them very helpful. this site is great!

At that price, and that convenient, I'd snap it up and call it a day.

I'm with Pepper. That's a good price with local availability. You may be able to find something cheaper online, but once you factor in shipping and FFL fees, prob a wash at best.

Let us know what you decide.

As stated above, the Colt LE6920 has been discontinued and replaced with the Sporter version, same weapon, just different roll marks. They are still available, you just have to hunt for them, but price is starting to go up on the LE's.

At that price on the ammo and you only bought 1 can? Better go get more if they have it. Our Walmart hasnt had any .223 or 5.56 in months except Tula.
