Good or Bad idea?

I would like to try RL10X.  Haven't found any info and am a  bit reluctant to go it alone.  Have had really good success with RL10x and 69gr Bergers.

Have thought that 18.0 gr would be a good starting load with a max of  20.0 gr for 95gr Sierras and RL10X.

Thanks

Bob

I checked the last pdf version of 6X45mm load data I have, 8.1 .

I does show one listing for RL10X.  18.8 gr., velocity only 2050 fps. with a 26" barrel. Pressure avg. 52,000 psi. No COAL listed.

Personally I have not shot any projectiles over 85 gr. out of my 6X45mm barrels. And with heavier bullets, I use powders with slower burn rates than RL10X.

Look at RL 15 for a decent performance. I prefer 87's in the 6X45.

Thanks Greg for the info.  I will give the RL17 & 87's a chance in the future.

I think I have found one of my bullet/powder combo nodes with the 95gr.

I'm a Hodgdon fan.  Does anybody have a load for 95 gr SMK using Hodgdon powders?

I'll look at my data in the AM. Hodgdon does list quite a few but I'm not sure if the 95's. If itworks on an 87 I'm pretty sure it will do on the 95. Did you look at the big data link here?

Looking at the printed literature I would start at around 20.0 of RL 10X. I would move up in 0.3 increments.  You may well be done quickly as 21 grains per Quickload is 102.5% case capaity at 59,435 and 2718 out of a 26,  THIS IS COMPUTER PROJECTION!! BE CAUTIOUS!! Most guys I see are claoming around 52,000 PSI but that is very low for this cartridge. I would expect you to be hitting in the 2700 area FPS wise.

I've looked at one link. It did look at it. Didn't find what l was looking for. Also, what is the heaviest bullet you can use and still fit in AR mags?

I would not shoot anything over 95 in the magazines that go to 2.316. unless I cut the front out.  RL10 is not the ideal powder for a 95 SMK as it is relatively fast compared to the top performers in my experience.
