....my new toy. 1968 Jeep CJ5. V6, overdrive, recent rebuilt engine, new shocks and all the original paperwork for the winch, overdrive, and all receipts for the last 20+ years. This Jeep was bought used 45 years ago by the father of the guy I bought it from. The guy I bought it from was seven years old when they got it and because it was red he called it Apple. The stories he told me today of how many kids learned to drive in this Jeep and how it was used on a Big ranch in Monterrey Ca. He needed to downsize vehicles and the jeep had to go. He did not want to sell it to someone that was going to cut it up and modify it. I wanted a stock Jeep to run around the property and use for hunting so we made the deal.

With all the rain we have it was tricky getting down to Sacramento. The freeway was the fastest route that I thought would be clear....I was wrong......this is what we encountered on the freeway a couple times....you didn't dare take you eyes off the rig in front of you...

The trip home was not uneventful either........and we went the dry route....or so we thought...

I have a little tinkering to do on the Jeep to get it up to my standards. The overdrive pops out of direct and the rear turn signals don't work. It has an exhaust gasket at the pipe that needs replaced and just needs to be ran. It drives nice and the brakes are great. It goes faster than I need it to go too. I got him down on the price so I can put new rubber on it. The tire tread looks good but  they are aged out and cracking. I'm super happy with the purchase. He threw in all kinds of extras, four Jerry cans, and a brand new car cover too.

Congrats on the Jeep.  Looks like it will be a good project.

Everybody is getting a new Jeep but me.

That is awesome. You will have more fun with Apple than you know. Be careful with that exhaust manifold, ask me how I know. Twisted off bolts in the head trying to get one off. I was trying to take it off because I twisted off bolts on the flange, trying to replace the donut. The other side was cracked. Be careful of cracked Jeep manifolds, especially for those engines, they're getting scarce. Passenger side are a dime a dozen (ok, not quite) but the center dump driver's side are expensive. They also used this engine in Jeepsters, but they had a weird forward outlet to clear power steering components. I was almost to the point of having headers made.

Welcome to the Armory Apple, make yourself at home. We love Jeeps and Jeep porn so take lots of pictures (in your case selfies) action shots are especially exciting. Lots of Armory brothers own your kind so feel free to ask questions, someone will have an answer. Although some of us cannot leave y'all alone, it would seem that your destined to remain somewhat stock.
Again, Welcome and enjoy your stay were very happy to have you on board.

No

I plan on doing nothing to the look of the Jeep. I have to put tires on it as the ones on it are very old and dry rotted. I have a small exhaust leak ti fix and that is about it.....I have to wire it up for a trailer plug for my shooting trailer as well.

Nice !

Have fun ! !

Nothing but rain and wind all week and Apple doesn't have doors......the bad weather will give me a chance to tinker with it and get it ready for spring. I do have to cut a board to lay across the roof when it's parked at the house as the cats think the soft top is a nice hammock.

I am going to change out the heater hoses, check fluid levels, and get me some tires this week. There are a few extra wires running around that I will pull out and clean up too. I have to change out the turn signal lever and figure out what was modified to get the rear turn signals working again. I have them working now but it's not permanent. I need to pick up a set of magnetic towing lights and some safety chain so I can tow Apple behind my other rigs.

If the wind and rain let up the wife wants to take it four wheeling near by.....I am up for that!
