I've been to the Brass Fetcher website (great website by the way), and I also have been to the firearmstactical website. The problem is that despite Brass Fetcher's good work, he so far has only conducted one 180 grain test for the 10mm Auto. Firearmstactical website lists only partial data, obscurring bullet expansion on many loads tested for some reason??? I don't know if this is some crypto-top secret thing for law enforcement eyes only or what, but it would sure be nice if they published the complete results so that the rest of us could adaquately have the information on making the right choices on the right loads for protecting our families.

So I was wondering... does anyone know if anyone, or any of us have ever undertaken the task of doing comprehensive 10mm Auto defensive and hunting factory ammo tests for velocity, accuracy, functionality, bullet expansion and penetration, in both bare and clothed ballistical gelatin, for ALL pertinent factory ammo, and in short handgun barrels (3.5 to 3.8"), medium length barrels (4.0 to 4.25") and standard length service barrels (4.5 to 5.0")??? It would sure be nice to have a complete data set to work with... wouldn't it. Thanks all.

"So, therefore, the demarcation between violence and nonviolence is mainly related to your motivation and goal. Now, if you undertake a harsh action, some wrathful action, with genuine motivation to save or to protect, or in order to achieve some great benefit for a great number of people, that action is essentially nonviolent. It is violent in appearance but not in essence" (Hunt 88).

Great links IR!

The most comprehensive 10mm ballistic gel data I have seen is here:
http://www.10mmtalk....?showtopic=1393

All of these tests were done using 10% ballistic gelatin provided by Vyse gelatin using all FBI protocols and 4 layers of denim and two layers of light cotton T-shirt in front of the gelatin.

DoubleTap 10mm
135gr JHP @ 1600fps - 11.0" / .70" frag nasty
155gr Gold Dot JHP @ 1475fps - 13.5" / .88"
165gr Gold Dot JHP @ 1400fps - 14.25" / 1.02"
165gr Golden Saber JHP @ 1425fps - 14.75" / .82"
180gr Golden Saber JHP @ 1330fps - 16.0" / .85"
180gr Gold Dot JHP @ 1300fps - 15.25" / .96"
200gr XTP @ 1250fps - 19.5" / .72"
230gr Equalizer @ 1040fps - 11.0" and 17.0" / .62" and .40"

With careful handloading you will be able to duplicate many of these.

Neat stuff!

Cool, thanks. Hopefully in the future, other ammo makes and types will be tested more extensively.

I frequently have 'subroutines' in my brain...as a mental exercise I will attempt to multitask and play a virtual game of billiards or some such exercise in my head whilst doing other (usually) menial things. One of my fav exercises happens to lists of ammo I want to see tested....if I ever win the lottery I will make some ballistics lab very happy b/c there are dozens of rounds I want to see sent through the FBI protocols, BoxOTruth, and other tests!

When ammolab was up and running, I sent several 9mm rounds for their first batch of tests....very cool and I'd like to find a place that does correct gel, chrono, pressure and other tests taht will accept 'donated' factory ammo. I have at least 60 or 70 different rtypes of rounds in my locker (mostly old weird crap) that I'd really like to see put to the test.

In 10mm, I'd like to see comprehensive tests on the Ranger 200gr Talon, 190gr FBI-X-load, all 3 flavors of factory XTP, PowrBall, DPX, Glaser, Silvertip and several others.

Those 2 weights are probably the most popular for all around CCW use!

Not "scientific" by any means, but in this early review of DT's 10mm 165gn & 180gn Golden Saber HP loads, I did penetration "testing" with one DT load against wet phone books encased in denim jeans, and the other using denim with a pack of "beef" inside. :whistling:

The tests are described in more detail toward the end and in the pictures that follow it. Here's the link to the review (again, it's a bit dated, but might be of interest to those who haven't seen it):
