  1. Best of luck to you and yours. My extended family went through that experience many years ago when I was a kid
  2. I remember when those heaters were first introduced They used to hand them out in bulk packs because they weren't yet in the actual MRE Kind of the same thing they did when they rolled out the shelf stable bread I had bundles of those heater packs stored in the MRE collection til the mouse burrowed through the whole thing one winter and ruined everything
  3. Because they are socialized to believe that the gov't will always be there for them in any time of distress No need to take care of yourself if someone will do it for you.
  4. There are a number of UK prep forums http://www.uk-preppers.co.uk/forum/ From Ireland: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=22a573fef216e364aa2c90009aaf7cba&f=1514 I always find it interesting to surf foreign prep boards to get an international view on how they handle the issue Many issues are exactly the same of course but every society seems to have their own twist
  5. Even back in the 80s military manuals had distribution restrictions printed on them. The change has come with the shift from paper to e- manuals for current guys. Many fewer paper copies in circulation, less chance that you're going to see excess paper editions floating around at surplus stores
  6. Problem with many older paper manuals is that there 've been a lot of manuals updated in the past 10 years or so. You might want to try military surplus stores, or any military friends you may have. You have to make sure you aren't getting some seriously outdated paper manuals I tossed most of my military manual collection this last spring when I moved but kept mainly weapons and medical manuals
  7. Old thread, but I will ask since the OPs links are dead, if the information is still available from someone I'd be interested in getting a copy
