Hey Guys, i Have a New Topic that I would like any and all info as possible for this cartridge...Is there any one out there that owns a AR15 in the .338 Spectre...This round was designed by the Same company that did the .458 Socom..Teppo Jutso...Iam Very interested in this round and would like any Reloading info that the AR15 ARMORY Readers might have....I don't mean to be rude but I Don't need anybody telling me why would i want this round since there is hardly any info available...It's just cause i think that it is a PowerHouse at the 100-150 yrd range....Beats the .300 BlkOut hands down......Plx, help me in anyway possible.....

S.Cline, I was thinking that you ought to try using the CCI 450 Magnum Primers and see if that will get you a little more velocity with your 87gr HotCor...I averaged about 53 fps more using the CCI 450 Primers over the Fed 205 primers and i did that using Less powder...If you get a chance try that...I thought you had mentioned that you had some CCI 450 primers on hand..It may help.......tdoom

Okay, Now iam going to post some stats using several rounds designed for the AR15 Platform....My Stats will come from Hornadys WebSite since they make ammo for all the AR15 rounds being Compared to the 25-45 Sharps..Several ammo manufactures also make a round for Hogs and the 25-45 Sharps has one for that as well...Also most Barrel lengths will be at 16 inches or as indicated....Since I posted reloading Data for the 25-45 Sharps using 90gr Bullets i Will try to keep as close to that Bullet weight as possible for a good comparison with the other rounds...So, Let's Do It.. Sharps Rifle Company: 25 x45 (.257 cal) 20" Test Barrel 70gr BlitzKing - 3179fps = 1571fpe 87gr HotCore - 3000fps = 1739fpe NOTE: Sharps makes a Hog round for the 25-45, which will be posted with the other Hog Killers Hornady: 24" Test Barrel 223 x45 - 75gr BTHP Match - 2790fps = 1296 fpe 223 x45 - 75gr Superformance - 2930fps = 1429 fpe 5,56 x45 - 75gr Superformance - 2910fps = 1410fpe Hornady 6.5 x39 Grendel (,264 cal) 24" Test Barrel 123gr A-Max - 2580fps = 1818fpe 123gr SST - Same as Above 16" Test Barrel 123gr A-Max - 2350fps = 1508fpe 123gr SST - Same as Above Hornady 6.8 X43 SPC (.277 cal) 16" Test Barrel 110gr American Gunner BTHP - 2570fps = 1613fpe 110gr V-Max - 2550fps = 1588fpe 120gr SST - 2460fps = 1612fpe NOTE: Hornady makes a Hog round for 6.8 SPC , but that will be posted with the other Manufacturers Hog ammo. Hornady 7.62 x35 .300 BlkOut (.308 cal) 16" Test Barrel 110gr V-Max - 2375fps = 1377fpe 125gr American Gunner HP - 2175fps = 1313fpe NOTE: Hornady also makes a Hog round for the 300 BlkOut, and yes you guessed it, that will be posted with the other Hog ammo as well. Hornady 7.62 x39 (.310 - 312 cal) 20" Test Barrel 123gr SST - 2350fps = 1508fpe Now Comes the HOG Terminators. Sharps 25-45 20" Test Barrel 100gr Dead Tough Swine Smasher - 2650fps = 1559fpe Hornady .223 20" Test Barrel 50gr Full Boar - 3335fps = 1235fpe 6.8 x43 16" Test Barrel 100gr GMX Full Boar - 2550fps = 1444fpe 7.62 x35 (300Blk) 16" Test Barrel 110gr GMX Full Boar - 2350fps = 1349fpe Federal Premium 223 Rem Barrel Length Not Known 62gr Fusion - 3000fps = 1239fpe Winchester Barrel Length Not Known 64gr Razor Boar XT - 3020fps = 1296fpe DRT 223 Rem Barrel Length Not Known 79gr Terminal Shock - 2600fps = 1186 Remington 223 20" Test Barrel 62gr Barnes TSX Hog Hammer - 3100fps = 1323fpe 300 BlkOut 16" Test Barrel 130gr Barnes TSX Hog Hammer - 2075fps = 1249fpe Now, everyone must wonder why i included all these different rounds giving the velocities and muzzle energies, which is quite simple...We are all looking for something with a little More Power and Still be able to use it in the AR15 Platform without making alot of modifications...Because modifications can be Expensive, time consuming and a real pain in the ass to convert back if problems should occur.. If you are paying attention and Noticed the Velocity / Energy of the 25-45 Sharps is Very, Very Good..Using Sharps Stats and using my Stats that i recently posted you should notice that the only other rounds that come up to the 25-45 are the 6.8 SPC and the 6.5 Grendel and the 25-45 beats the 7.62x39 considerably in speed and horsepower...Now if the 25-45 is to your liking all you have to do is change out the Barrel..BCG's and Magazines are all the same...Now using the 6.5 grendel, 6.8 spc or the 7.62x39 Not only will you have to make a Barrel change you will also have to make a Bolt Change cause the 6.5, 6.8 and 7.62 have a larger head, so a different bolt is required. carrier is the same..Next is the magazines Grendel, SPC and 7.62 require different mags with less ammo capacity..also, the 7.62 will probably need an extended or modified firing pin to be able to detonate the harder primers on the military ammo...Now looking at ammo situations the 25-45 is only manufactured by Sharps at this moment and it seems that Sharps is keeping up with ammo demand very well and it's on par with other ammo's such as 75 gr 223 etc...Grendel seems to be available as well as 6.8 spc but can be hard to find and it to is over 1.00 a round...Now if you reload then the 25-45 is a dream come true as you use 223 brass and neck it up to 25cal...The dies are available through Sharps...I guess what iam saying is the loads that Sharps advertises and the 90gr loads that I posted clearly shows that the 25-45 Sharps delivers a whole lot of Power for Not a whole lot of Money and it does it all with the little 223 case and one barrel swap...And thats why i think the 25-45 could very well be the Best Round for this Platform.........tdoom

S.Cline, I see that you got 2929fps with 26.5 grs of A2200 thats Really good...I think that i could have gotten that as well, but my partner seemed to get spooked on that one load...He my (partner) loads in a controlled envirement and his heat and ac come from wall mounted vents and when we did that one load 26.4 grs using the cci 450 primers he was getting mixed readings so he moved the electronic powder scale out of the breeze as the air vent kicked in ...then we just went with that number 26.4 since we already had loaded those five rounds..26.4...But i think that the load was indeed alot Hotter then 26.4 and thats why he got spooked when we did the Tests...As he does all the shooting when we tests these loads and i watch for the brass as it lands on the ground...His comment was Wow thats pretty stiff load. so find that spent case and we'll check for any pressure signs or primer issues...Nothing was found...So we fired the last four rounds and inspected these as well and still No pressure or primer signs...He uses magnified goggles that a Jeweler would use to look for problem signs...But we did drop back on the charge...On my last test # 4 we dropped back to 26.2 grs and that gave us an AVG 2870fps and that gives 1646 fpe..Thats alot of power coming out of a little 223 case...But, 2929fps second will give even More Horsepower that will get you 1715 fpe...Really cool Huh.....Thanks for sharing that info, also Sharps advises that they get 3000fps with the 87gr HotCor from a 20" tube...Now the Powder they ( Sharps) uses is RamShot Exterminator or A2230 both of those powders have almost indentical Burn Rates...RamShot 74 and A2230 at 75 smaller the number Faster the Burn Rate..A2200 is even faster..I believe that Sharps uses CCI 400 primers as well..Where i was using Fed 205's and ended with CCI 450 small rifle Magnum's..When i ordered my powder i could Not get RamShot or A2230 ( out of stock) so thats why i went with A2200.......tdoom

Greg, There is Laser engraving starting rearward about 2.5" from the muzzle...It reads: Sharps Rifle Company - Innovation By Design 25-45 Sharps SS P3 That's all i can find unless i take off the Free Float Tube then there'll probably be more info....I didn't see anything that would have indicated it came from BHW.. Even the fancy box that the barrel was shipped in..But, BHW could just as well have made it....If BHW did make it it is of GREAT quality and i'm proud to own it...tdoom

Greg, if your question is directed to me the Barrel is Manufactured By Sharps Rifle Company..Lands and Grooves i'am not sure of, you can go on Sharps Web site and probably find that answer...Accuracy was Not really on the list as we were testing for speed and power ..The targets were out at 50+ yrds and we were pretty much punching clover leafs at Fifty yrds so my guess is that accuracy will be outstanding... once i get my rounds all loaded i will test in my back yard i can go out to 100yrds....Hope that helps..

Here is my Last post for this New Load...Reading the Last post i just put up You should have seen that those loads used Federal 205 Small Rifle Primers..This New Data will be with C.C.I. 450 Small Rifle MAGNUM Primers and A2200 Powder...Everthing else being the same (No changes made to rifle)...ONE THING THAT I FORGOT TO MENTION is that the C.O.A.L. is 2.245 " this is the same as my Last and other Previous posts and also the BULLET is a SIERRA GameKing .25 Cal 90 Gr.HPBT Date: 8/10/2016 Time: 10:15 am Weather: Cloudy / Humid 80% Chrono: 10Ft in front of muzzle. Test # 1 Powder 25.2 grs 1st- 2842 2nd- 2831 3rd- 2811 4th- 2801 5th- 2796 Avg = 2816 fps = 1585 FPE Std Diviation = 19 No issues. NOTE : Previous Load using Fed 205 Primers and 25.4 grs of A2200 gave an AVG of 2731 Fps..Using the CCI 450 Primers and 25.2 grs of Powder we had an AVG of 2816 FPS so that Gave us an Increase of 85 Fps using two (2) tenths less powder...Not to Shabby..But, wait it gets better.... Test # 2 Powder 25.8 grs 1st- 2851 2nd- 2829 3rd- 2846 4th- 2840 5th- 2859 AVG = 2845 = 1618 FPE Std Diviation = 11 No Issues. NOTE: Using another previous load and Fed 205 Primers and 26.4 grs of A 2200 gave an Avg of 2831 Fps. This New load using only 25.8 grs of powder and CCI 450 Primers gave us an AVG of 2845 an Increase of 14 Fps using Six (6) tenths grs less of powder.... Test # 3 Powder 26.4 grs 1st- 2921 2nd- 2877 3rd- 2904 4th- Chrono Failed to pick up 5th- 2914 Avg = 2904 = 1686 FPE Std Diviation = 16 No Issues.. NOTE: Again using this load to another previous load using Fed 205 Primers and 26.4 grs of A2200 gave an Avg of 2831 Fps..This New load using CCI 450 Primers and the Same Powder Charge of 26.4 A2200 gave us 2904 FPS which is an Increase of 73 FPS.....However, even though this Load didn't have any issues No Flattened or Bulged Primers, No Brass issues that could be seen through magnified lenses...My partner who has been loading for 30 plus years seemed to have been Spooked by this load and Suggested we Back it down a little, So we did... Test # 4 Powder 26.2 grs 1st- 2859 2nd- 2886 3rd- 2884 4th- 2884 5th- 2837 AVG = 2870 = 1646 FPE Std Diviation = 21 No Issues.. NOTE: Using another previous load 26.4 grs of A2200 and Fed205 primers that load gave an AVG of 2831 FPS.. This New load using 26.2 grs of A2200 gave us an Avg of 2870 FPS an Increase of 39 FPS..Again using two (2) tenths less powder....My Partner seemed to be Quite Pleased with this load....So it is written, So it shall be done.... NOTE: #2 Taking the AVG Velocity Increase of the last four (4) tests: (1) 85 fps, (2) 14 fps, (3) 73 fps, (4) 39 fps = 211 FPS divide by 4 = 52.75 FPS AVG using the C.C.I. 450 Primers over the Fed 205 Primers..Also, i didn't have one spent case missing a Primer..I Did have two (2) spent cases with the Fed205 Primers that were missing..Quite possibly that the A2200 is to Fast (Burn Rate) for the Fed 205's where as the CCI 450 are made for MAGNUM's Please be Advised that this Data is for Educational Purposes Only and I will Not be held Accountable / Responsible for any Misuse of this Data..Use at you OWN risk...Should you decide to use this Data start Low and Work Up...Better Safe then Sorry....... My Next Post will have some Comparison Ballistics using other AR15 Platform Cartridges and why i Believe that the 25-45 Sharps could be the Best yet...Stay Tuned.....

Newbe, The 25-45 Sharps WILL fill the gap between the 223/556 and 300Blk..Sharps Rifle Company advertises the 87gr Hot-Cor bullet leaving the barrel (20)" at 3000 FPS and that Translates to about 1739 FPE which is around what the 6.8 SPC and the 6.5 Grendel gets in the HorsePower range...On top of that your getting this Extra power using a standard 223 case Necked up to 25 cal..Only having to make a Barrel swap...BCG and mags are all the same..6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendel need a Different Bolt (same carrier), Different Magazines, Different Brass as well as a different Barrel..Ammo also is a little hard at times to find for those Two Calibers as well...Downside to the 25-45 round is the fact that Sharps is about the only company that makes the ammo for it, as of now...So reloading for this round will help with the Having ammo on hand when needed..However, there is Very little reloading data out there, So that is why iam posting my data to help anyone who might find the 25-45 Sharps to their liking...I think that with the Proper loads this will be an Excellent Varmint and Medium Game Terminator....Also, the 300 BlkOut 125 Gr has about 1300 FPE..Remington advertises their HogHammer 130gr at 2075 FPS and gives 1249 FPE..So the 25-45 really does pack More punch.....Hope that Helps..

Hey Guys, Back again with some more Data for the 25-45 Sharps.. I purchased some Accurate 2200 Powder and Still using Fed 205 Primers so here's the next set of Data..Using some Data i picked up on other Web Sites..One user advised that 25Grs of A2200 is Max for a 87Gr Bullet and expected Velocity will be around 3000 FPS and my tests didn't get me that far, (Velocity) wise....My Tests are as follows....Using a Sierra 90GR GameKing BTHP Bullets. Test #1. Starting with 23.7 grs of powder. 1.2547 2.2523 3.2472 4.2502 5.2485 Avg.= 2505 Standard Deviation = 24 Test #2. 24.4 grs of Powder. 1.2601 2.2555 3.2636 4.2594 5.2638 Avg.= 2602 Standard Deviation = 37 Test #3. 25.4 grs of Powder. 1.2726 2.2742 3.2744 4.2708 5.2738 Avg.= 2731 Deviation = 14 Test #4. 26.4 grs of Powder. 1.2844 2.2826 3.2844 4.2824 5.2820 Avg.= 2831 Deviation = 11 Test #5. 27 grs of Powder. 1.2868 2.2873 3.2859 4.2822 5.2902* Avg.= 2864 Deviation = 28 * Blown Primer.. These Loads were All inspected for signs of Pressure, Case Fatigue, Flatten or Bulged Primers and No sign of any problems occurred Until we Broke the 2900 FPS barrier...We Did load another 5rds with 27.3 grs of powder But we decided to Pull the Bullets and Not risk a potential hazard....Now our next test, we will be using CCI 450 Primers and Starting out using Less powder and work our way back up to see if we can get any more velocity without running into problems...Anybody reading this info Please Note that these Loads are for EDUCATIONAL purposes Only....Use at Your Own Risk!!! Start LOW and work UP...More Data Results will be Posted asap...

Greg, i was using Fed 205 primers......I DID purchase 200 CCI 450 Primers but decided Not to use them yet...I want to get some RamShot X-Terminator powder and i'll probably just order that online and just fork out the Haz-Mat cahrges as well..Then i'll use the 205's and the 450's and see what i'll get with that...Then i'll keep posting my results..... I didn't Know that you can Use Large Rifle Primers in a Small Rifle Case...How is that possible? Last but Not least you had mentioned that there were other sites discussing the 25-223 / 25-45 as well, what other sites our you talking about? p.s. Sharps Rifle Co. Advised that they USE the RamShot X-Terminator Powder for all there loads Including the Swine Smasher 100 gr FlatNose... Get Back when you can... Alvin

    25-223 or 25-45 sharps

Okay, here we r again....We done another 6rds of 25-45 ammo and Using the Same powder as before, Alliant (AR Comp)..We went with a 4" Powder Drop Tube and a Powder Trickler...Earlier we Didn't use a Powder Drop Tube or Trickler and we could only get 25.2 to 25.5 grs of powder into the 223 case...However, using a Drop Tube and a Powder Trickler we were able to Custom load 6 rds at Approximately 27.2 grs per case...This configuration i found on a web site and that is where i Got my Data...The person that gave that data advised that 27.2 would be the Max for that Powder and 90 gr bullet....So, starting out i dropped the charge to 25.2 and worked up to 25.5 (1st report) and that did Not come close to what i had expected 2527 FPS as to expected 2800 FPS.....So, now here is my Next report...Using the Trickler and Powder Drop Tube we Got 27.2 grs into the 223 case this put the powder all the way up the case neck..We seated a Sierra 90gr GameKing BTHP C.O.A.L.at 2.253" and that WAS just enough to fit into a Thermold Mag...This round IS a Compressed Load...We Test fired one (1) rd for function reliabilty and to make sure there was No excessive pressure on the Primer or Case...None was found.....We then proceeded to fire the next 5rds... 1st- 2633 2nd- 2648 3rd- 2646 4th- 2620 5th- 2607 Avg of the 5 shots = 2630 FPS Translates to 1383 FPE Which is about where the 300BLKOUT is..... My thought on this particular Powder is that i wasted around $34 on this powder...Sharps stated that there 87gr bullets r getting about 3000 FPS and there using Ramshot X-Terminator Powder or it's equivilant A2230 and there posting over 1700 FPE thats where the 90 gr should be getting over 1580 to 1625 FPE....So, this Powder is Okay if you don't need or want the extra power that the 25-45 is capable of producing...I, on the other hand Want that Extra Power..After all thats why you and I paid for that Different Barrel and that Expensive R.C.B.S Die Set....As soon as i can get my hands on some different powder i will add more updates... Also, Do NOT HOLD ME RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF THIS DATA...USE AT YOUR OWN RISK...START 10% LOWER THEN WORK YOUR WAY UP....
  14. Dear Fleshwound, Why don't you post some of the items you have for sell...There might be something that i might or other viewers might be interested in....Just a suggestion....

Greg, That is going to be my next step before i try a different Powder....I talked to Randy from Sharps Rifle Company and he advised to use a Powder Drop Tube as well...I didn't catch that when i was reading his notes that he sent me...He did say that X-Terminator and AA2230 were basically the same Powders..But i can't seem to find that around here...So i'm going to do some more loading probably tomorrow (Thur) and see what we come up with then...Randy also stated that i should get very close to 2800 FPS with that AR Comp Powder using a Drop Tube..I'LL keep ya posted...
