  1. I am a LEO and will be purchasing a new AR for duty and for a hunting rifle for my son. I have never fired a 6.5 Grendel and have only fired the 7.62x39 in the AK / SKS variants. I know the recoil of the 7.62x39 is mild (in AK/SKS) but I was wondering how the 6.5 Grendel recoil compares in the similar AR configuration. Im looking at Sabre M4 Tactical in 6.5 grendel with 16" barrel weighing in at 6.85 pounds vs. DPMS Panther in 7.62x39 with 16" barrel weighing in around 7 pounds (depending on rails/accessories). I know the Sabre rifle is probably better quality, but I am mainly concerned with the recoil. I know the ballistics of the 6.5 exceeds the 7.62x39. This will be the first "real" gun my son will use for hunting and I don't want the recoil to be a "deal breaker". He is 5ys old and shoots my 17 and 22s with assistance holding but need a viable whitetail gun he can grow into. If you have experience shooting these 2 configurations of ARs please help me out with felt recoil differences between these. Thank you.
