    308 pistols

I've already built a 358 win AR carbine with a KAK barrel and it is indeed a hammer. Shoots great with 225 gamekings. I know KAK offers a pistol-length barrel as well. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with any of BH's pistol length barrels. : )

    308 pistols

Been a while since I've visited, but I thought I might ask here since I do builds with BHW barrels. Anyway, I've built a 300BO pistol and love it--and was toying with the idea of making a AR10 platform pistol--but have never found anyone anywhere that has done so. Having fired 44 mag for quite some time some stout recoil is OK--but I'm wondering performance-wise which of the 308 calibers makes the most (any?) sense in a pistol configuration. thanks!

    25 x 45 ??

Hi Greg (et all)-- I recently bought an upper from sharps and though I haven't confirmed it I suspect BHW makes their barrels--since it's so new and a 25 x 45 barrel is offered at BHW. But that's just a guess. Because of the inherent limitations of the full-length parent case I'm finding that only short ogive 25 cal bullets are suitable for reloading--in fact Sharps says stay pretty much with the hot cor 87 gr (which of course is sold out everywhere and unattainable). So getting to the point--do you have any reload data for 25 x 45 for anything in the 87 to 100 gr category (if it's even possible)?? Much thanks and happy holidays!

    AMERICAN 30 Bigger and Better

Thanks for that--quite impressive; and unlike the RAR looks like this one keeps the accuracy tight with a wide range of loads. OK--another question--any indications of barrel-wear potential--is this a "burner" after a few thousand are down the pipe?

    AMERICAN 30 Bigger and Better

I like the concept and you hit the nail on the head--I've always been sceptical of another 30/7.62 variant on the AR 15 platform due to the limitations of what you can get from the cartridge volume. Do youi guys have a real world ballistics chart measuring the performance vs other alternatives--I can't seem to find one anywhere?
  6. I think you're the same guy I talked to over on Savage Shooters?
  7. My issues were different on my recent break-in of my 264 lbc 18" barrel--though you might also benefit from a ramp/lug polishing and the grinding a radius in the ejector rod that Ritch recommended to me (see pro hunter thread). I'm taking a wild guess that it might be a friction issue because 1) it's brand new and 2) it's intermittent Got me stumped with the spent case jamming--that usually only happens to me when something causes a "bounce-back" into the receiver like a brass-catcher. Hopefully Greg and/or Ritch will be along shortly to give superior advice. PS--you're shooting some of the best factory ammo that my weapon likes.

    Hornady mystery powder

A couple of weeks or so ago I was testing my new 264 lbc build with some hornady 123 sst factory ammo--and it grouped surprisingly well--so well that I wouldn't hesitate to use it in a pinch of I didn't have any hand-loads available. During the testing I (rather stupidly) was using a caldwell brass catcher even though I knew it would eventually result in a bounce-back double-stack. That it did--and the bolt slammed a round sideways against the ejector port--hard enough to dent and crack the case. I decided to pull the bullet and see what's inside just out of curiosity. The powder is a superfine almost dust size and consistency--even finer than the superformance powder that I have. I've never seen anything like it--and when rubbed between your fingers it basically becomes a stain like mascara.. I can see the advantages in terms of case capacity utilization--but this stuff is really a mystery to me. Any ideas?

BTW--I tested the rifle with live ammo the other day and it fired everything flawlessly--much thanx to Ritch and Greg for the advice on mods. The only thing left to fix is my technique to get the best accuracy possible. : )

    anyone tried the nosler e-tip?

Sound reasoning--the notion that expansion is not linear and could vary according to other factors (not the least of which what it is or is not hitting) intuitively makes sense to me. Over on the grendel forum the hunters seem to be big fans of the 100 gr ttsx's--and I almost always have had great target results with most nosler bullets--thus my interest.

    anyone tried the nosler e-tip?

I ran the numbers through a ballistic calculator and even at 500 yds this sucker is hitting very hard starting with what I think is easily attainable 2500 fps mv. I like the weight retention aspect to the copper-alloy design though I readily admit I have no hunting experience with any 264 bullet.
  13. Looks mighty interesting with high SD and BC. http://www.nosler.com/e-tip/

It sure like the 120 ballistic tips--I imagine it would love the 100's. The grendel folks seem to be very partial to barnes ttsx's in 95-110 range--what do you think about those?

I did sneak in a batch of ballistic tip 120 gr driven by 30 grs of accurate 2495--got a glimmer of the 264 magic mojo with three of the shots at 100 going into the same hole and one "flier" but still sub .5 MOA. at 100
