    HartaTac.com issues?

got my parts yesterday and all is well. pretty certain I should have been a bit more patient. especially when only paying $179.99 for a Magpul PRS stock which is selling everywhere else for $242 plus. HaraTac's communications may not be the best, but their price on this item certainly makes up for it. and yea I'm pretty sure I'll be buying from them again.
  2. thought I'd post a few items I have found for weapon cleaning that fall outside the usual gun cleaning products: bed or puppy/pet potty pads: cheap, super absorbent, plastic packing won't let solvents leak through, and disposable. bamboo skewers: cheap, great for scrapping out carbon in the tight corners, flexible and will not harm or scratch, and disposable. cotton swabs on bamboo sticks: IPA Swab-EEZ Industrial Strength Swabs. assortment of 325 swabs of various sizes. most on 8" sticks for $10. For sure the best non-weapon specific item I have ever found. They are long and stout enough that you can chuck-em in a drill and do some polishing in the bore if needed. Available from Northern Tool, Amazon, and IPA Tools. Just google: swab-eez

When is a primer too flat?

Dillon swage if adjusted out too far will open the pocket too much. when you seat a new primer you can not even feel the primer seating (zero resistance). I came across a bunch of mil crimped 38spl somewhere and managed to ruin a bunch of cases. Probably could have tried them, but knowing they were lose going in just didn't make sense to me.

    Brass catcher

yea, I use this one Caldwell too and it does the job, doesn't shift and never misses. however the webbing is nylon and hot brass will sometimes stick to the webbing. not enough to actually melt the webbing and I have not seen any nylon residue stuck on the brass. off the bench, I unzip the bag and let the rounds drop out the bottom. whish I could find additional mounting bracket for the rail so that I could more easily use it on different AR's
  5. is a run of the mill upper able to adequately support a 24" SS HBR? That seems like a lot of weight hanging off that aluminum upper. Is a beefier upper advised, or a non-issue? If yes from whom?

    Gas Block question(s)

my son is in the middle of an upper rebuild. he attempted to pin the flash suppressor to get to 16" and managed to drill too deep. :( So now he has a new barrel but wasn't able to use the original mil speck front sight/gas block because of the two retaining pin slots not being in the barrel. He is going with an entirely different gas block without sight, but I would still like to know how that sight would have been installed. would you align the site and then drill the slots using the site hole as a pilot or are those slots cut before. in either case how in the hell would you line that sight up? I mean being off at all would be bad. or so me thinks.

    AR dry fire, damaging?

Can not speak for all military branches but I do not recall any of my 1976 Paris Island DI's or range instructor ever demonstrating pulling the trigger with the upper receiver off. Don't recall them specifically saying not to either. But then I may have forgotten over the years. Fast forward to 2012, my youngest Marine son home on leave mentioned it when disassembling one of our ARs. Never thought to ask him how he knew not to do that. To be sure Marines dry fire the crap out of our weapons (snapping in) during first week of marksmen ship training. But letting a hardened steel hammer smack against an aluminum receiver may not break it but it will eventually deform it. Could be the USMC's budget has always been so tight we worried about stuff like that.

    Bargersville

anyone here in or around Bargersville? trying to get some info on the folks who operate HartaTac.com. I am getting some raised hairs on my neck from a pending purchase from them. credit card went through but nothing else. no emails, no return phone calls, and a couple recent problem posts on their face book page. could be a family emergency type thing slowing down a small family business or something else............

    New ambidextrous charging handle

for my dime the BCM Ambidextrous charge handle is the only way to go. the medium length release latches are not sticking out too far and the ambi latch toggles just like the normal latch. from what I have seen of some other ambi latches you push the release catch then pull the charging handle. even though I'm a righty, I love this thing for getting around a long 6x24 scope. best thing since sliced bread, imo http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCMGUNFIGHTER-Charging-Handle-GFH-Mod-44-AMBI-p/bcm-gfh-mod-a44-556ambi.htm

  15. has anyone had any issues dealing with HartaTac? https://www.hartatac.com/ I ordered a Magpul PRS stock and standard A2 buffer/tube/spring from them. All were shown as in stock with shipping expected in 1-2 days (per their site). 4 days later no notification of shipping. I emailed and called(phone message with no replies. I went to their face book and found two recent posts begging them to respond to inquiries about shipping insurance and deliveries. https://www.facebook.com/hartatac?ref=hl From what I can tell they are a small family run business. As such, I can imagine a family emergency shutting/slowing things down, so I do not want to go off the deep end yet.
