  1. Life is all about making compromises. I bought the BHW barrel thru Surplus Ammo. They sent me a stripped upper along with the barrel as a bonus. Now, I am debating whether to make another 5.56 upper or go with a 6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendel. BHW makes excellent barrels for both 6.8 & 6.5. If I go 5.56 again, I will make this one a piston rather than DI.
  2. I have to second the original poster's opinion. I was more than a little leery of all the endorsements and recommendations for BHW barrels. I ordered a full profile, 16" mid-length, 1:8 barrel for my very first build (and my very first AR ever). Until BHW proves otherwise I will not put another company's barrel on any of my future AR builds. BHW has made a believer out of me. Here is the last group I shot breaking in the barrel. I was shooting .223 Federal 55 gr FMJ with MBUS sights at 50 yards. This is the lower left hand corner of the target. Let me know if you would like to see the full target to see how I walked the shots in before shooting this group.
  3. I completed my first AR build. The upper, lower & BCG are from Spike's Tactical. The barrel is a full profile 16" mid-length with 1:8 twist. The rail is a 10" thin profile from Guntec. I have a Syrac adjustable gas block. Magul mil spec tube, buffer, MOE collapsible stock, MOE pistol grip & MBUS sights. Here are the photos of the rifle and a target of the last 3 shots from breaking in the barrel. I shot the group with Remington 55gr FMJ at 50 yards. 5/8" total spread from top to bottom. Needless to say all of the BS tales I read on this board prior to building my rifle about how great BHW barrels are......well they're freaking true!! I could not be happier with the way this rifle shoots.

  5. I hear ya. Originally, I wasn't going to go with optics but the barrel from BHW is too damn accurate for me not to put one on it. I have an astigmatism in my shooting eye which renders the EoTech worthless. I haven't looked at the Aimpoint PRO yet but I have read I will have a similar issue so I am looking at a 1-5 or 1-6 tactical scope for it.
  6. Hey guys! I completed my AR15 build. I took it out yesterday to break in the barrel & sight it in. My avatar photo is the final results. That was at 50 yards with .223 55gr FMJ Remington ammo using MBUS sights. It measures 5/8" top to bottom. I have 2 more projects left for this rifle. 1) Optics - I am going to put a 1-6X scope on it 2) Giessele Single Stage trigger in it. I want to thank everyone for their advice on this project. It was an amazing success!
  7. You guys are freaking awesome! Thanks for the advice!
  8. Thanks! I posted a question on the other thread for you.
  9. Thanks! I have one more question. The Syrac gas blocks come in 2 types: clamp on and set screws. The clamp on does not meet at the bottom while the set screws is a solid unit where the set screws come up through the bottom. Do you have any preference between the two?
  10. Yeah, that's like asking us to talk you out of not sleeping with Kate Upton when she's already nibbling on your ear.
  11. I bought the BHW barrel from Surplus Ammo as well. It is 16", mid length, HBar, 1:8, 1/2x28 TPI. I am still getting all the parts together. DSG Arms just mailed the Magpul MOE kit I bought from them in January. I am very excited to see how she runs.
  12. Does anyone have experience with or know the difference between the Gen I and Gen II Syrac gas blocks? Thanks!
  13. Okay... I need some more help. I want to buy a Syrac adjustable gas block. I have found the Gen I for $49.99 with free shipping. The lowest price I have found the Gen II is for $96.00 with either free shipping or $7.00 shipping. I cannot remember which. Anyways, is there much of a difference between the Gen I and the Gen II? Thanks!
  14. Thanks guys! You've all given me something to think about!
  15. Thanks! I found a company, DGSArms.com, they offer a Magpul MOE kit for $99.00 that includes a buffer tube assembly. Here's the link: https://dsgarms.com/mgmidmoe What your thoughts?
