  1. There's that. Then there's the socialist government that limits our freedoms, taxes us up the a$$, and spends most of it on illegals and bureaucratic BS. Not to mention the insane number of people, lack of water, traffic, and cost of living.
  2. Sorry about the lighting. It's that late afternoon Southern California 83-degree sunset in mid-February. Believe it or not, I want out.
  3. I'm not computer illiterate, but I can't figure out how to post a damn pic.
  4. My rifle is just about done. Here's what it has so far... *Anderson stripped lower *PSA Premium lower parts kit and Magpul pistol grip *Spike's Tactical ST-T2 buffer, 17-7 stainless spring, and mil-spec buffer tube *Hogue overmolded collapsible buttstock *BCM upper, mid-length, with Mod-4 VOLTR charging handle and BCM bolt carrier group *Midwest Industries 12-inch SSK Keymod handguard *Magpul angled foregrip and MS3 sling I decided to leave off iron sights because I want to keep the gun as light as possible and I don't like the Magpul MBUS. I put 50 rounds through it last weekend with no issues whatsoever and a huge smile on my face the whole time. It's incredibly smooth. Last but certainly not least, optics. I want to go with a 1-4x and am strongly considering the Vortex Viper PST. What's throwing me for a loop, though, is whether to go with MOA or MRAD. So, I was hoping to hear from some of you more experienced people what your preference is and why, and also if I should be considering another scope such as a Leopold or Burris. Thanks again.
  5. I've been doing some research online today and have learned a lot about buffers, springs, and tubes. I now like the idea of a heavy buffer and a mil-spec spring. I was thinking about buying this stock kit: http://www.spikestactical.com/stock-spikes-m4-complete-kit-p-46.htmlDoes anyone have any opinions on it? Are there other things I should consider? Thanks.
  6. Alright, I've assembled my lower with the PSA kit that took almost 4 weeks to get here. I also ordered a BCM upper assembly mid-length, 16", 1:7, BCM bolt carrier group, BCM mod 4 charging handle, with an MI 12" SSK Key Mod hand guard. I placed the order last night and I received an email this morning notifying me that it had shipped. impressive! What I need now is a buffer tube and stock, and I have no idea what to get. I'd like ambidextrous sling attachments, but otherwise, I don't know what else to look for. Can any of you provide links to some good options? Thank you.
  7. Thank you for the info. I've been at a stand still because I still haven't received my LPK from PSA. I ordered it on Jan. 1 and it is supposed to arrive on Jan. 21. Is that normal for them? If so, I don't think I'll be doing business with them anymore. I decided on the upper assembly below. Please let me know if there are any red flags. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-KeyMod-KMR-p/bcm-urg-mid-16-kmr13.htm Thanks again for all the help.
  8. Basically, I don't know the difference in quality and people's general preference between standard and light weight receivers.
  9. Can someone tell me which of these I'd be better off with? Or, if you have a better option, please let me know. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-KeyMod-KMR-p/bcm-urg-mid-16-kmr13.htm http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-LIGHT-WEIGHT-KeyMod-KMR13-p/bcm-urg-mid-16elw-kmr13.htm Thank you.
  10. Again, great info, everyone. I really appreciate the help and am learning very quickly. I haven't made any purchases lately, but here's where I stand. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. As of right now, I only have the stripped lower and lower parts kit, plus the punches and hammer as suggested above. I figured it would be easier to buy an assembled upper my first time out of the gate. That way I can learn more about the weapon before attempting to build one entirely on my own. I want a mid-length 16" upper, and I've decided on a 15" free floating keymod hand guard. I really like the Midwest Ind. Anything made by BCM seems to be a little more expensive than I was willing to spend. It's looking like I'd need to buy a receiver and barrel assembly, then add the keymod hand guard, but I don't know anything about how that's done or if it's even realistic to think I can do it. Furthermore, Nwatson99 above mentioned the quality of the steel. Again, that's all new to me, but I appreciate the heads up. My next issue is with the buffer and buttstock. Basically, I don't know much about them apart from the fact that the bolt is forced into the buffer tube during cycling and that I definitely want to get an adjustable buttstock. A friend also insists on mil-spec over anything else. It seems to be MagPul this and MagPul that, but I don't know what else is out there or where to buy. I looked at Hogue and they looked pretty cool. But I just don't know. We'll talk optics later. I was hoping to get some suggestions on these things first. Thanks again, everyone.
  11. Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome and great suggestions. Ninemile, I took a look at those JSE uppers and they have some that appear to be exactly what I'd want at a price I'm willing to pay, too! I especially like that they come with a Midwest rail, mil spec BCG and charging handle. I'm just a little hesitant because this is the first I have ever heard of them, not that I'm some industry expert by any means. In fact, I'm very much a noob but I'm learning quickly. Thanks again, everyone. I'll post more questions as they come to me.
  12. First of all, I want to say thank to everyone who is willing to help us newbies get educated in the world of AR rifles. I, for one, find this thread to be invaluably insightful and am truly appreciative of all the advice. All you readers of this post have undoubtedly forgotten more than I will ever learn about ARs, and I feel fortunate to benefit from a fraction of your experience and knowledge. So, here's where I stand. I just bought an Anderson stripped lower and a PSA MOE QMA lower parts kit. I want to build an economical tactical style AR. Please keep in mind that I have absolutely no knowledge apart from some online research. I am doing this because I've been interested for awhile and Uncle Sam says I can, for now. I was thinking about getting a PSA fully assembled upper, but I would really like to have a MI Gen 2 SS free float hand guard. And, I've decided on a gas platform. Basically, if I were to assemble my own upper receiver and barrel (not penciled), I don't know which would accommodate the Midwest rail to keep me within a relatively affordable range. Additionally, I don't know anything about BCGs or charging handles, except that I would need them and better quality is preferable. Anyways, I think that will get me a good start. Please refrain from making derogatory comments on the Anderson lower, if you are so inclined. It's been purchased, it's in my possession, and it's being used, so that's that. I'm just excited to get started on this project and am looking forward to your suggestions.
