Thanks for the great detail, I appreciate the information. My HBAR shoots Wolf steel, PMC and Federal Eagle brand just fine. Started with 5 20 round mags, one had a poor welded repair on the base and didn't feed. I tossed it and the other four ran fine. I will try some of the brands you recommended as extra mags.

Finally got to shoot my new to me HBAR Sporter. Two FTF with one bad mag and 158 great shots with the other mags I had, using Wolf, PMC and Federal ammo. Shot at paper and at reactive targets. This is a fun plinker. Got to get more ammo!

No, the guy who I bought it from shipped the gun in three boxes (!) and the box with the mags showed up first. Finally got the gun today, hope to shoot it tomorrow. It is a Colt HBAR Sporter with a 1/7 barrel. I was surprised at how heavy it is. It should not kick at all!

Went to pick up my AR today, but only the mags arrived. So now I have five 20 round mags but no gun. Oh well, maybe tomorrow...

Some good suggestions. Thanks for the ideas. I had not thought about the bore snake, I can see where that would be handy. Thanks

Also, what about quick change/constant zero mounts for the handle guns? Is there a style that actually allows you to take a sight on and off without losing zero? Thanks

Thanks for the input. I am coming from a lever action/iron sight and bolt action/scout scope background, so I have a steep learning curve here!

    1911 Mods??

Check out the Wilson Drop In Beavertail Safety. It will, as it says drop in, and takes care of the hammer bite without altering the gun or requiring a trip to the gunsmith. On my RIA I swapped out the hammer for a WWII short spur hammer and added a commander type tang safety that was just a bit longer than the stock RIA tang. This combination keeps me from getting bit. Before I swapped the parts I got bit every time, even after bobbing the stock hammer. You will find your hand shape has a great deal to do with hammer bite. Some people never have it, some of us have it with many guns. I have shot WWII era 1911A1 Colts with no bite at all and shot newer series 70 Colts that bite every time. Go figure! I like the looks of the military style 1911s, but much prefer shooting the guns set up with better triggers, commander style hammers and beavertails.

What about the Brownells brand mags? Are they a good value? thanks

Just getting into the ARs, and am interested in a flat top. However, the optics prices are very scary. What are some cost-effective options? Also, what are some add ons that make a good overall system by adding one piece at a time: red dot, magnifier, laser, surefire lights, etc.? Thanks

Hello, I am new to the forum and new to Black Rifles. I am supposed to pick up my first black rifle a Colt HBAR Sporter tomorrow. I have a chamber brush and several of the basic AR books, so I can probably figure out how to field strip the gun. Of the thousands of AR things available, what do I really need to keep this gun running?
