  1. New to this and decided to try to use this rail I found in my deceased brothers collection. I can't ask him where he got it. There are no markings on it and I have done hours upon hours of internet searching. Definitely more than I should have. Closet thing that might work is the BCM KMR barrel nut from Bravo. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I attached a link to the images I put on Imgur. Hopefully this works. http://imgur.com/a/X9jTysR
  2. Link to my listing: NO EBAY LINKS POSTER DOES NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF POSTS TO LIST HERE. PLEASE REFER TO POSTING RULES. Greg
  3. Picked up a PSA "Space Force" lower today.
  4. I never thought I'd see a new AR for that sort of price again. Bear Creek "Brown Bear" carbine, 223 Wylde chambering. $299.99 Yea, I know it's a bargain basement type of gun, but still... https://www.bearcreekarsenal.com/bca-brown-bear-i-complete-ar-15-rifle-16-m4-barrel-223-wylde-1-9-w-standard-hand-guard-a2-front-sight And of course, out of stock.

  6. I'm purchasing a Daniel Defense M4 V5 S and have a few different optics I'm debating... I plan on using the rifle for target shooting, 10m-300m. The optics I'm eye-balling are... The Leupold AR MOD 1 3-9X 40mm Mil-Dot & the Vortex Venom Red-Dot (obviously I'd have to change them out) --OR-- the EOTech 518 w/ the G33 3X magnifier?? Also, would the Atlas BT10 work for shooting both from the prone and off a bench with a 30rd mag or would you suggest a 20 or even a 10rd mag?? Thanks for your help/advise in advance.
  7. Ok, so a little about me for starters. I've grown up around guns and have a decent knowledge but most of it comes from bolt action rifles. I've never used the AR-15 platform but have been looking at them for years. Initially I was just going to buy one but decided it would be a better experience to build my own. I've done some research and have decided to get a Mega stripped lower and ordered a lower parts kit without the trigger, trigger guard, etc. So the next logical step I guess is a trigger and work my way up. I've never shot a two stage trigger so I'm thinking I should go with a single stage as that's what I'm accustomed to with bench shooting. Can anyone recommend some good single stage triggers? And also I need to start looking at barrels. I looked at satern barrels but you basically have to order one from them the way you want it and I don't feel comfortable with my lack of knowledge placing an order yet. I'm looking at either a 16 or 18 inch barrel. So the big question is which one? Stainless steel or not? Chrome lined or not? Does satern even offer some of these options as their website doesn't say. Or can someone recommend some good barrels from someone else?
  8. Hey all! Looking for a Hobby. Always wanted to build one of these! I would like to make it look nice but also be able to use it on the range and possibly do some hunting with it. All information and advice would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Hello everyone, I just picked up my first AR-15 and I need some help picking out which optic I should get. I have the Stag model 3 and on that I have the magpul MBUS flip up sights. I want a inexpensive but reliable optic (something that will hold zero). It doesn't need to be water proof but any reliability features will be cool. Im looking to spend around $150 give or take. any information will be useful! Thank you! -Jordan
  10. First of all, I want to say thank to everyone who is willing to help us newbies get educated in the world of AR rifles. I, for one, find this thread to be invaluably insightful and am truly appreciative of all the advice. All you readers of this post have undoubtedly forgotten more than I will ever learn about ARs, and I feel fortunate to benefit from a fraction of your experience and knowledge. So, here's where I stand. I just bought an Anderson stripped lower and a PSA MOE QMA lower parts kit. I want to build an economical tactical style AR. Please keep in mind that I have absolutely no knowledge apart from some online research. I am doing this because I've been interested for awhile and Uncle Sam says I can, for now. I was thinking about getting a PSA fully assembled upper, but I would really like to have a MI Gen 2 SS free float hand guard. And, I've decided on a gas platform. Basically, if I were to assemble my own upper receiver and barrel (not penciled), I don't know which would accommodate the Midwest rail to keep me within a relatively affordable range. Additionally, I don't know anything about BCGs or charging handles, except that I would need them and better quality is preferable. Anyways, I think that will get me a good start. Please refrain from making derogatory comments on the Anderson lower, if you are so inclined. It's been purchased, it's in my possession, and it's being used, so that's that. I'm just excited to get started on this project and am looking forward to your suggestions.
  11. Hello folks, We are a new sponsor of the forum and would like to introduce our new Modulus Arms Universal AR-15 80% Lower Jig. Aside from being the only true universally compatible router based AR-15 80% lower jig on the market, we believe our jig is the easiest and most accurate jig available for finishing your lower. We accomplished this feat through decades of engineering experience. At Modulus Arms, we are a team of engineers with an AR-15 habit. Or AR-15 enthusiasts with an engineering habit, whichever way you want to look at it. Our Jig uses standardized features to center and locate the lower into our jig during the finishing process. Other jigs on the market use non-standardized dimensions to locate the lower in the jig, which can and will result in out of spec features. The Modulus Arms Jig's integrated drill guide and supplied drill depth gauge makes the drilling portion of the finishing process a breeze. With our jig, the user is required to drill far less holes which saves time and reduces the opportunity for mistakes. A common woodworking router with an end mill bit attachment is used to finish the lower with precision and accuracy. We have an entire series of instructional videos and are always available to answer any questions for our customers. On top of all that, our Universal Compatibility Guarantee instills further confidence in our customers to know that they will not be left hanging if problems arise. Please take a moment to browse our website where you will find more information and available products. Our hot seller right now is our Universal Jig + Anodized Billet 80% Lower Package which is a great deal if we can say so ourselves! Please feel free to send us a PM or email us at sales at modulusarms.com with any questions!
  12. What BCG would you buy and why this is a rifle I am building? nickel boron, chrome plated, or phosphate

  15. Hey guys, I'm doing a lightweight AR build for my girlfriend and have been looking at stripped uppers. What I found surprised me. I was searching for a "slick sided" upper to save weight. The 1st I found (and really only truly slick upper) was the DPMS Low Pro Upper. The site says it weights .66 lbs = 10.56 oz http://www.midwayusa.com/product/138383/dpms-upper-receiver-stripped-ar-15-low-profile-flat-top-matte The 2nd item I found was the Spike's Tactical SlickSide Upper. It has no FA but does have a deflector and dust cover. listed 7.26 oz. http://www.spikestactical.com/new/sss/upper-reciever-m4-slickside-no-forward-assist-multi-cal-p-926.html The 3rd item I stumbled across was the regular old Daniel Defense A4 Upper. It has all the bells and whistles and comes in at... 7.00 oz. https://danieldefense.com/components-parts/stripped-uppers/a4-upper-receiver-assembly.html So, what gives? I expected the less goodies on the Upper the less weight but these 3 examples are the opposite! Obviously there is no real trick here and the DPMS design is simply bulkier or the weight isn't precise. Daniel Defense's motto is LIGHTER, STRONGER, BETTER... and it looks like they may have milled out some material underneath the picatinny rail. Still, I was surprised at what I found.
  16. Hey all, I have been reading up on AR-15's for a while and am now in the market for my 1st. I've narrowed down my selection to 2 platforms that I like. Both appear to be similar rifles and I have found them at a similar price point (not enough difference for me to care). I'll list the PROS of each below (according to my thinking). The Daniel Defense M4 V7 (no sights) https://danieldefense.com/rifles/mid-length/daniel-defense-m4-carbine-v7-no-sights.html + Daniel Defense name + I really like their slick Modular Float Rail 12.0 + Comes with Magpul Stock (grip?, magazine?) The Core15 TAC II M4 FDE CERAKOTE http://core15rifles.com/core15-tac-ii-m4-rifle-fde-cerakote.html + I like the FDE coloring + Comes with Magpul Stock, Pistol Grip, P-Mag + What appears to be an awesome Lifetime Warranty + Unloaded weight is 5.9 lbs (vs the 6.4 lbs for the DD) They both seem to have the same basic "features": + chrome line 4150 CMV govt profile barrel + low profile gas block + flash hider + M4 feed ramp + flat top The other rifle I'm considering is the Spike's Tactical ST-15 16" Mid-Length LE w/ 13.2" SAR but it is my 3rd choice http://www.spikestactical.com/new/ss/st15-16midlength-le-w132-sar-p-812.html Does anyone have an feedback on the DD vs the CORE15? Anything I'm not considering? My favorite part of the DD is the Slick Rail which I think I could buy separately for the CORE15. The only thing about the CORE15 is that I wasn't familiar with the brand until recently but I've read some good things. Thanks, Sean
  17. Hey guys, My girlfriend enjoys shooting guns (9mm Glock) and the .22 but she is fairly recoil sensitive. She only weighs 105 lbs so I'm not surprised. I'm learning that it is counter-productive to try and "force" a bigger caliber on her (so to speak). I would still like to get her setup with a carbine for self defense purposes but even the (relatively) mild .223 is out. To this end I'm considering getting her a 9mm carbine. I've read into the various non-AR 9mm platforms out there and there are only a couple that look suitable: the Beretta CX4 Storm and the (discontinued) Ruger PC9. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beretta_Cx4_Storm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruger_Police_Carbine The Hi-Point hasn't have the capacity (10 rnds), the Kel-Tec isn't durable enough (and I don't hate Kel-Tec, I own an SU-16C & a PF9). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi-Point_Carbine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kel-Tec_SUB-2000 I'm considering an AR-15 platform 9mm because (as long as I use the right parts) it can be a fairly easy switch to .223 if she ever gets up the nerve. My biggest "barrier to entry" is wanting to get some real-world opinions on the recoil of a 9mm carbine compared to a .223 carbine. The 9mm has about 1/3rd the muzzle energy but I'm not sure that will directly translate into 1/3rd the recoil. If the weapon doesn't have light enough recoil, then I'm on a hopeless quest. If I do go the AR-15 route I am thinking about doing a 5.56 upper & lower, with a magwell block.

  21. I'm looking to buy my first AR-15 in the near future, but I would like some input. I don't need anything that's top of the line, just something that is solid that I can add to when I would like something nicer. I like guns that will last a long time and aren't flashy, like my Mossberg 500 or my M&P 40. I'd like to use it at the range and for personal defense. I'm looking to spend around $1,500, including tax, so let me know what y'all think.
  22. Bought this: http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=32 not too long ago so I could carry a spare mag on my gun belt. I wasn't thrilled with the built in cant and they wouldn't make me one that was straight. Being the Comp-Tac fan boy that I am, I ordered anyway despite my reservations. It arrived today. Initial impression is good. Built to normal Comp-Tac structural and aesthetical goodness it seems. Has the normal allen head machine screw/rubber donut tension system that works well on their other products. My only reservation is it uses a "clip on-clip off" style belt loop instead of an actual loop. I'm thinking about fixing that, but may give it a run first without as it does seem secure as it is. The cant is not near as severe as the photos made it seem. It is noteworthy that while using a 30 round magazine the cant helps. I use straight bodied 20's thus my reservations. We'll see how it goes and I'll up. I have a multi-day class on the 22-26 coming up and we'll see how it survives.
