Lately I've been experimenting with the wide aperture of the A2 rear iron sight (on carry handle). Previously I had always used the narrow aperture. What I found, to my surprise, is that I can get a pretty tight group at 50 yards with the wide aperture. However, at 100 yards I have a hard time keeping shots on the target. Now, suposedly, the wide aperture is supposed to be used for 0-200 meters. But after my experience I'm pretty skeptical about that and I wonder why would anyone choose to use the wide aperture other than for CQB distances. (In fact, years ago I installed an aftermarket A2 rear peep that had a wide aperture that is the same as the standard narrow one and screw in peep holes for the narrow one that are even tinier. I eventually decided to go back to the standard rear peep but the aftermarket product was clearly better for long range shooting.) What's the theory behind 0-200 yards with the wide aperture?

Anyone have suggestions for back up iron sights? I don't want to make a mistake of purchasing aluminum sights (spring assisted back ups) for $20 because they are unproven. At the same time, I'm not comfortable with $100 for MBUS sights either. I'd prefer flip up metal sights, especially if they are really close to mil-spec. For $100, I'm REALLY looking for metal tritium sights. I can pick up an AmeriGlo upgrade kit for $75. If I purchase a front and rear aluminum sight that have Mil-Spec front and rear apertures (that also flip up) for $20, total cost is $95. EDIT: I can't tell the difference (at least visually) between a BCM sight http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/AR15-Iron-Sights-s/8.htm And these sights http://www.ebay.com/itm/271776970154?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I found another set that looks like higher quality (and more troy-clone-ish): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Tactical-Foldable-Flip-Up-Transition-Iron-Sight-Front-Rear-FBUS-MBUS-BUIS-/231538818742?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35e8c9feb6

I recently installed an ACOG (Trijicon 3.5x) on my AR15A2 with a carry handle. In this configuration I can use either the ACOG or the iron sights (visible through the tube at the base of the ACOG). I am not at this time considering adding a reflex sight. My question is, as a general practice, whether and when to switch from ACOG to iron sights. (Assuming the ACOG is working properly. Of course, the iron sights are always available as a backup in case the ACOG has problems.) For example, one might rely on the iron sights at 0-25m and the ACOG beyond that. On the one hand, every article I've found so far discusses iron sights only as a backup to optics. On the other hand, they often argue that ACOG is not ideal of CQB.

So I built a dedicated 22lr AR for my 10 yr old and put a red dot on it but also need to put some back up sights on. My question is can I put polymer sights(like MBUS) on the gas block being that it doesn't have the gasses running through it. Would it get to hot or am I good with polymer or do I need to go with metal. If so any recomendation on inexpensive BUS that will do the job for this? Thanks Guys...
