GLShooter
I'll be getting one of the BHW left handed uppers. Once I decide on a barrel/caliber choice I'll put it together. The only left handed rifle I own is my custom 358 Norma Mag so this should be a very interesting foray in to world of leftness. GLShooter
Awesome....keep us posted about your thoughts and how it runs I will. I'm not sure what I will barrel it with. A 17/223 would be a new experince or a 20 Practical. I have the dies to load either one. Greg
GLShooter
OK guys. Here is the upper. I need to add a dust cover to it. The left handed bolt release has not been delivered to BHW yet but should be their in the very near future so I don't have one to show. The Group Buy will have the upper with dust cover, the BCG, charging handle and the modified bolt release. I may well shoot this one with out the door if I get a barrel soon otherwise I THINK I have a way around it. I just have to drag out my Wilson bolt release and put the calipers to it. So here we go. The set: The left handed bolt is on the bottom. Notice the groove down the side. Shot of the rails. And no, that is not a crack, it's where my clumsy fingers whacked the bolt in the rear of the receiver and SCRATCHED it!! Bolt sliding in with the grooves hugging the rail. A comparison of the charging handle race with a DPMS Hi Rise righty. Notice the rounded cut on the forward side is reversed for the left handed upper. That cut is where your cam turns. A lefty cam won't run in a right hole and vice versa. BWH upper is on the left. One last shot of the BCG in the upper from the barrel side. It was weird reinstalling the bolt with the extractor to the left. So that's what I have. Like I said not sure about what I'll stick on it. That is still under discussion. What ever it is it will be a 223 case size. I know of three cartridges that I have not shot that BHW is building with them so MAYBE I can run it after the 20 LBC testing is done. Any thoughts? Quality Arms
Ok, what is the reasoning for the rails? is it just because it is left handed? and why is it needed. a right handed one doesn't have rails. Let me know, I can only think that the rails are for more strength for the upper or something for the bolt to ride on so it doesn't get torqued? Let me know

Let me know, I can only think that the rails are for more strength for the upper or something for the bolt to ride on so it doesn't get torqued? Let me know Good reasoning there. BHW is doing railed upper on right and left hand types. They object is to get a smoother surface that allows the bolt to remain perfectly parallel as it goes back and fourth in the upper. It makes for a smoother bolt cycle. No advantage in strength per se just smoothness. Is it needed? In the big picture, no. Obviously AR's have run for decades without them. Is it a nice touch to have? I think it is. Some guys are having issues with bolts tilting running less than perfectly parallel and causing extra wear on the uppers parts and this is a good cure for that problem. I think that as the AR gets more interest that little "improvements" will come up. The base gun runs fine but some shooters, me included, like some of the new additions. Some guys like the roller cam pins like POF does, others swear on bolt coatings be they chrome, Tin or what have you. Bolts are now being MP tested and while they aren't all "necessary" they do add something to the gun. I am not a fan for all the rails , lights etc that I see on AR's and for me the wildest thing I have are the round NM free float tubes. My style and it works for me. I had a chance to try the rails and was encouraged to do so by the fellow that is working on the 20 LBC parallel to me up in Utah and I value his opinions. Just like the GP has become a rage for some it is just another option. Now a GP and a railed upper might be real hoot Who knows . I have not thought about a GPU myself but if one wandesr in to my hands I will certainly give it a go!! Thanks for the insightful questions. Nwatson99
I like that design, however I do miss the Forward Assist though since I have been shooting the rifles so long, kinda does look right without one.

I understand that. I still reach up to lift the bolt at times!! I still have not picked a barrel but I hope to get this one running in the near future. GLShooter
I have an barrel in process. It will be a 6X45 by BHW. Hopefully it will be here soon and I can get it out and whack a few PD's before winter and enter my first F-Class 600 yard match. I also found a local tactical match that I can get in to for some more fun and games. I've got a large batch of 223 brass ready to neck up and plenty of bullets to test. I even picked up a Redding 223 Bushing FL Die a few months ago on the off chance of getting one of these barrels in hand. Now I have to order in a gas block and free float tube and I will be just about ready. Optics may be a challenge but maybe someone out there will let an old man get one to campaign for them. GLShooter
It's been some time since I posted on this one so here is the rifle after about 500 rounds of testing. I put the Viper scope on it that I will use in matches, slapped on a Harris bipod and added some weight in the butt stock. What do you think?
