1st Custom Colt DE circa 1990's

Recommended Posts

Thought I would share some pictures of my first 10MM “custom package” going back to the early 90’s. I will start by saying I was in my mid 20’s when I dreamed this project up, while it is by no means my “nicest” custom job it is one of my favorites. This pistol has taken over a dozen deer, numerous hogs and beavers off the ranch.

I admit there are times, I look at the pistol with some regret and think only a 20 year old would think camo paint on a Colt is cool. But my 13-year-old son assures me it is the coolest gun “he” has.

The 10MM started life as a standard blue DE, several months with Ned Christiansen of Michiguns LTD and the following had been completed.

-Novak Tritium Sights installed

-Bar Sto match barrel fitted with match bushing

-Slide tightened to frame

-Trigger at 3#s

-Wilson Bullet Proof externals and internals

-Wilson Hammer

-Wilson or Ed Brown Beavertail

-Custom G10 grips “slim lined”

-X (s) cut into front and rear of frame ( X as in Roman Numeral for 10)

Once Ned was done with the performance part, I shipped it to a contact /company in Austin TX, who at the time was doing some proprietary coatings for the military.

The finish is 15 ish years old and truly “bullet proof”, each color (5) was applied one at a time and from what I understand took over 60 man hours to do all three pieces.

I was planning from the beginning to have a Delta Elite theme knife completed to match the pistol, when I saw the pistol I decided to have one of my AR 15 (Pre Ban Bushmaster) done to match.

The AR has had a few upgrades through the years.

That is nice. :thumb:

My DE is a 1989 and could use a new facelift and an internal do over.

wiley10mm, shame on you for posting camo pattern porn on 10mmTalk! All BS aside, I would say that, your personal collection tend to complement each other really well. Thanks for sharing! :thumb:

I think it's awesome and I'm not the kind of guy that usually likes that kind of finish.

That has got to be one the coolest 1911s I have ever laid eyes on. Awesome. Don't regret it, get her a sister if you want one that's more elegant. :thumb: :thumb:
