Sgt_Bom
First and foremost, when I say side mount I don't mean offset or any thing of that variety. I have the quad rails and wanted to mount the red dot on the left side of the weapon. The main reason is I prefer iron sights and if the battery dies, I don't want to be stuck. I like the idea of red dot sights but they are useful in only a few scenarios. I was just wondering if anyone has done this? What kind of accuracy am I going to lose? Thanks
desperado8605
just run the optic on the top and co-witness your irons like everyone's been doing for years

I can co-witness perfectly through mine. I'm running eotech but I'm sure others would work as well. Oh, and welcome to the Armory. Dark Prophit
If you want a side mount rds, you just might as well get a offsett mount so your transitions between are not as severe.

captainbarred
+ 1 on offset. I don't have a pic right now, but one of my favorite setups is a red dot off set with an acog on top. ETA : Just did a google search and came up with a SBR I built a few years back then sold. acog on top, red dot at about 1 oclock position, maybe 1:30. Just a little rotation and your CQB red dot! Dark Prophit
You can also get dueck defense offset irons instead, which keep your sight picture clear.
Sgt_Bom
Well it look's like I am using the offset solution, as well as returning my RDS. I got a BSA cheapie for a hundred bucks. Should of got a better quality one apparently. Anything after two hundred yards, I was unable to hit the target with the RDS attached and iron sights. I guess my objective was to still have the RDS attached and not spend any more money mounts. Thanks y'all.

DMViergever
I would also like to point out that if you put a sight on the left, or bolt release side and go prone, you are putting ejection port down, which is a no no.

Sub $100 mark, the ONLY optic I will consider is the Bushnell TR-25 Sub $150 mark, the RDP2 (looks like the fastfire - sold by TNVC). Sub $200 mark, Vortex Strikefire Aside from those, there are a couple decent sub $200 red dots, but I personally won't put them on anything but .22s. Even the three I listed I probably won't use as a primary/go to optic. they just are not proven enough. Aimpoint, Eotech, trijicon, BOWE.... the big names are "the big names" for a reason. they are battle tested and proven.

I mount my Reflex sight off set to the Left of the Receiver. I have not shot prone since I left the Army . I like tilting my AR 45 deg, to the right to shoot around barricades , walls etc .
