Kel-tec Sub2000 .40-to-10mm possible?

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I just joined tonight, so I'm sorry if this has been covered. I can't search the forums until I post 10 times. I have a Ket-tec Sub2000 .40 cal that takes Glock magazines. I'm wondering if anyone has explored the idea of converting this to 10mm. A competent machinist could expand the chamber to accept the 10mm case length, but I don't know about the pressures. If you’re not familiar with the sub-2000s, I will try to figure out how to post a picture tomorrow as I am off to work now. Please be kind, I'm just thinking out loud here. I'd love to hear some constructive thoughts.

The magazine needs to be able to fit the 1.2600" long 10mm cartridges, most 40S&W mags are too short front to back for the 10mm's OAL.

Also the bolt travel during cycling needs to have enough travel to pick up and feed and extract the longer cartridge. The bolt may also need its mass/weight to be increased to compensate for the impulse of the 10mm.

The recoil assembly needs to be efficient to handle the power of the potent 10mm cartridge, Buffers if used may also need to be of better quality...

The longer cartridge of the 10mm and its respective power do present challenges! :tap:

Yes, yes it does. But I guess that's why we love it. I have the Sub2k in .40 and in 9mm, both taking Glock mags. I'm looking down the road of different combos for bug-out bags. The .40 works well with my G23. Paring it with my G20 would be ideal, but that may be a pipe dream. My G20 is currently at Lonewolf getting a make over, but that is another post...

Thanks hzhardy and The_Shadow for the input!

If I am not mistaken (and I often am), that Kel-Tec is a simple blow back action which is not something usually associated with more potent rounds such as the 10mm. Some type of delayed locked breach is what one would want though I suppose with enough spring tension, perhaps blow back could work. Remember though the stronger the spring needed to stop the slides rearward travel, the more force it will typically close with. This can cause peening.
