Flesh Wound
Think of the nice long fields of fire!
Jaeger48
I'll post up a picture of the benches I hunt and the elk area we go. That's about 30 minutes from my parent's place.
scotto
So flat you can watch your dog run away for two weeks.
MontanaLon
SWwet Jeebus. NY wife, jr, and I are visiting her family here in IN. The flat is unnerving. They have no idea. When I first moved to Illinois from Montana the people all said "Montana, that place is really flat, right?" This from people who can see from horizon to horizon and the tallest thing they see is a tree and there are damn few of them.
Jaeger48
To be fair it's better here than Kansas. There the land is flat and no trees. As least here almost every farm has a stand of trees. Oh, are those clumps of leaves in the branches bird or squirrel nests?
Srgt. Hulka
If it's as flat as NW Texas, yes, that's flat. Except the Texas panhandle has a butt load of tumbleweeds.

Oh, are those clumps of leaves in the branches bird or squirrel nests? Most of Kansas has hills of some sort. Even creeks. Much of northwest Indiana was a huge swamp that was ditched and drained. It has zero elevation change beyond the odd pile of ditch dirt and the infrequent rock quarry overburden pile. Tell you how flat it is where I am. We have a 105' tower ladder. Some years back there was a fire in a city 35 miles away. We were training and ran the ladder up and with binoculars could see the flames. Our tornado spotting tower is at the top of an 11 story apartment building. On July 4th you can see every fireworks display within 100 miles. It is flat. Hawk451
According to my calculations, Kansas is about a 0.13% grade from KC to Mount Sunflower...
MontanaLon
My numbers may be jacked but I got .05% grade from highest to lowest in Illinois.
Hawk451
Not bad... I get 0.055-ish. I saw a t-shirt I shoulda got years ago. US map with state outlines blown-out in a spherical shape except for Kansas, which was like a polished facet. It read something like 'The rest of the world may be round, but Kansas is flat, very flat.'
Jaeger48
Flying out in a couple hours. Body is still on PST. Waking up at 2am... wouldn't feel as bad if I were going hunting or fishing.
Retcop
You need to get to Southern Indiana and Illinois. The glaciers stopped north of us, so everything is not scraped flat. We got varied topography, but the Northerners got all the good soil.
Jaeger48
Yeah, most of WA dirt is mediocre. There is ash from Mt St Helens in Spokane from the other side of the state. It's interesting to be in a wheat field and kick up white ash from a mountain 30ish miles away.
