Texas recognizes IL CCL

Recommended Posts

Just so you know, a bunch of states like TN and AL that are gun right states recognize any CCW license from any state. IL would have been an automatic here. Its the entire policy of the state choosing who can and who can't, thus setting standards that's unconstitutional in this state. We have our own version of the 2nd Amendment. Whatever is applied must be applied equally. This is a change since CCW.

We're not quite permitless carry yet but heading in that direction.

I know theres a couple states that wont recognize IL ccls unless we recognize theirs. Not sure if thats changed though.

For now that's a majority and was the way it was when this all started. They had to negotiate a "reciprocal" a two way contract. That's the way TX still is. TN was too at first.

The approach here has changed to a more pro-gun one, carry as a national right, a natural right, one step shy of don't even need a permit which there are five states like that now. Its a work in progress. The approach in TN which was not even close to being one for the first CCW states was "let's make the requirement as comprehensive as anyone's so anyone will accept it" then "Let's negotiate a reciprocal" till we were recognized in most states now its progressed to "Why bother to negotiate".

A state I travel often is WV It took what felt forever for them to do a reciprocal. States like CA, Oregon, NJ, NY, we still don't have one, probably never will because we are a "Shall Issue" state, which means we can't be turned down based on our local politician's whim or LEO's impression. They need a documented reason, felony, domestic violence conviction, restraining order, court ordered mental deficiency, etc.

Ironically from what I have read and maybe an IL guy will pipe in, IL is a shall issue state. (Probably as a result of the SCOUS court case.) That's new for an antigun state. Hopefully all they will need is some time to get use to all their people carrying guns. Two weeks ago, while in the Chicago area, I met several people wanting to get their CHL.

Illinois dragged their feet after the SCOTUS ruling for so long that they almost became a Constitutional Carry state by default. Essentially the anti gun Chicago folks ran out of time to craft a law which was would keep people from getting permits more than it allowed them to get permits.

It was kind of fun to watch the Bill be crafted and get pro gun amendments put into it to placate the down state democrats to vote for it. We got an assault weapons ban preemption clause and it was made "shall issue" because otherwise it would have been permitless carry.

The Chicago democrats lost the fight because they opposed all carry until the bitter end and couldn't get the votes to get a bad law for gun owners. Had they not fought it, they likely could have gotten a "may issue" law with even more restrictions on locations than they got.

What Lon said.

The Dems almost made this state constitutional open carry for anyone with a FOID. They(the Madigan clan) got a 3 month? extention to craft a new CCW law, and it was finally passed on the last day of the 2nd deadline. Then the ISP dragged their feet making the CCL test curriculum/application which took another 6 months(again, the summited it on the last day of the deadline). Even better, is that in the FCCL, the state is the only one that can limit/restrict concealable hand gun mags and ammo.

On another note. Theres the Crook county AWB and mag limit(10 rd), but thats only for unincorporated cook county. Every township had a deadline that they could pass an AWB and mag limit, fortunately alot of towns didn't.
