A2 Upper receiver

No cure I tell ya! After gathering all the parts I need for my .300 project, I am thinking about the next one already. I would like to do an A2 clone next with an integral carry handle. Which manufacturers do you A2 builders prefer or have used in the past?

Thanks!

I can't speak for everyone but I have used everyone from Colt to Model 1 Sales and have yet to have a bad one. Now, I'm sure someone has had a bad experience before but not me.

If you are looking for new uppers it might be difficult to get a Colt. I am unaware of anyone else who would have had an A2 contract. Rock River Arms currently has them in stock I believe. Also, get it complete with rear sight assembly installed. A2's are a PITA!

Bushmaster also carries A2 uppers as well. I noticed there online catalog also had A1 uppers. Those are getting really scarce! I may have to pick up a few just to squirrel back for when they go extinct.

BTW, I have two Bushmaster A2 rifles and both uppers have been great. I could highly recommend going that route with no hesitation.

FN also made M16A2's, but I don't know if they still make A2 uppers. Used ones do occasionally turn up on the auction sites, though.

If interested, I have a complete FN M16A2 upper receiver with charging handle and FN contract BCG. The upper does not have feedramps. PM me for pics if you like.

A gracious offer sir! I am surprised you have some parts that are not destined for your next build. PM sent!

I got this with the intention of doing something, but I could not figure out what I was going to build. I have a flat-top upper with a charging handle and FN contract BCG as well. Not sure what to do with it either. I have already embarked on another M16A1 clone build.

Don't want to hijack this thread but my son wants an A2 and I've been looking for a 20 inch barrel with no luck. Anyone seen any government profile 20 inch barrels in stock anywhere? He doesn't want a HB. I was also wondering if I couldn't take an A2 barrel with triangular cap and just switch out with round cap. Thoughts? Thanks.

Here is a complete 20" A2 sub-assembly

Here is just the barrel assembly.

You do not need to change the handguard endcap. The A2 handguards use the triangular endcap. Carbine handguards use the round endcap.

This doesn't answer the OP's question but have you considered a flat top upper with a detachable carry handle?

It won't satisfy that desire to have an original A2 but does leave your options open to change it up in the future.

Tack, I assume you have purchased either the barrel or the sub assembly. If yes to the assembly, the Windham site says it includes the "sight base". Do you know if this means I will have to buy the sight post separately?

I bought my first AR in January and am already pretty much into my third build. Do I have the disease??

No cure, no cure!!
