Why You Should Care about World War I

Recommended Posts

Good article, about a page in length from National Review.

SNIP: "This summer marks the hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Belleau Wood, which changed the course of World War I and gained the U.S. Marines their honored reputation. With a few exceptions, major media outlets have neglected this centennial."

"Thousands of Americans died. In fact, it was the deadliest battle in U.S. Marine Corps history up that point. Yet through it all, the Marines refused to give up, prompting the Germans to dub them Teufel Hunden, or “Devil Dogs,” a moniker they proudly claim to this day. “The Americans are savages,” one officer wrote. “They kill everything that moves.”"

WW1 Begat WW2.......

No, the demands placed on the losers at the end begat WWII. If things hadn't been so shatty in Germany, hitler would have never ascended in power.

Many if not most of the future conflicts can trace their roots right back to the end of WWI. Even the Cold War was a result of WWI. If Russia hadn't been weakened by the war it never would have fallen to the commies. Russia never falls and it is highly unlikely that communism would ever have emerged as form of government.

If we hadn't had WW1 then there would have been no demands to Germany to create a Adolph Hitler.

:winner:

The Treaty of Versace created for the Germans only one way to ultimately recover.

The extermination of the Jews and others is a separate consideration.

It is a good thing Germany as ruled by a genuine mad man and drug addict...

You are spot on that the on-going pain we extracted from the Germans as punishment for WWI directly led to the rise of

the National Socialist Party, and the Germanic need to recoup a little dignity. Leave it to the French (mostly)
