Bear Hunting in the smoke

Recommended Posts

I lost my mind a long time ago.

But I digress.

Good luck and be safe!

Smoky hike in was a killer. I was not doing well on the hike up (fitbit said it was 284 floors climbed)

Slept cold Wednesday because I was foolish and went with a lighter sleeping pad. Woke up to glass in this crap. That ridge is only about 1,500 yards away. I could barely make out a guy leading his mule along the trail that bisecs the ridge.

Decided to relocate and see if the next ridge over was any better. The wind picked up and I was greeted with this.

This is the ridge of Meander Meadows where I glassed for the rest of Thursday and spent the night. It was a nice 70ish degrees and sunny. Enough that I'm burned now.

I thought it was going to be gorgeous for the rest of the day but as I pitched camp and got ready to evening glass the nasty started rolling in.

I wore every stitch of clothing I had Thursday night and slept at most 2 hours in a row in order to wake up and then shake some to warm up and fall asleep again.

Saw plenty of marmots, a grouse, an owl, plenty of deer sign, but no bears.
