Gmountain
I was driving home today and got a ticket. He said I was going 65 in a 35. I actually didnt realize that- I was just going around a sloooow moving truck. So Get around him and see a motorcycle cop at the base of the bridge and I know I was cooked. He asked me for my license, registration and insurance. I told him my license was in the back seat, in my briefcase and I would need to get out and get it. I told him I had a gun in there as well. He asked me if I had a permit and I said yes, and he said ok, get your wallet. I did, gave him the license and asked if I needed to get insurance and registration. He said no, no need, it comes up on the computer. He gave me a ticket for nine over, which seemed ok to me. He said my name seemed familiar and I said NRA? Traffic court? Bingo. He had seen me there. I told him he would see me there again soon, we both had a lagh and I was on my way. Pretty painless, and quick. Nice guy.
Flesh Wound
Here in Texas speeding tickets are mostly a money trap. We have "deferred adjudication" available for speeding under 25 MPH over. Pay the fine. Don't get another ticket in the required timeframe (Varies by jurisdiction) and you are absolved of the ticket. The last ticket I got as 12 miles over in Richardson, TX. Go to the courthouse, pay $275 fine. Kept nose clean. Ticket gone in 90 days. Some places will even let you do the whole process online and pay with a credit card.... Gmountain
I will get no adjudication . It's a $100 fine, but I might be able to get that dropped.

hlhneast
I discovered with my last tickets a few years ago if you go to traffic court, they withhold adjudication so no points. You still pay the fine and miss a day of work but if your close to suspension level, 12 pts in a year, its worth it. Mine was a no insurance ticket where I bought a non running vehicle and got it going after a couple days and was test driving it to the parts store when an MC cop got in behind me and pulled me over. Neither the cop nor the judge took pity on me. Yeah I was guilty but I didnt want to pay insurance until I was sure it would run.

That's not too bad. I was not even mad that the officer pulled me over. I was speeding. He got me. I owned it. The fine was salty, but, well, that's Richardson.... That was the first ticket I got in nearly 20 years. I guess I was due.
MontanaLon
I miss the good old days of "Reasonable and prudent" being the speed limit.
GiggleSmith
MY last speeding ticket was courtesy of a Traffic Light with a camera. As it was in DC I should have been smarter. $

TomJefferson
Its been decades since I have gotten a ticket. I attribute it to two things. First, GPS which if you look at ETA and how much time you gain by excessive speeding, its negligible. Its just not worth it. The other is a philosophy of if I do speed, I'm going to speed like hell. That comes from quick vehicles with better than average 0-60's. I don't get a head rush from speed unless its a lot of speed. That's saying a lot seeing I practically live on US129 out by the Dragon which is arguably in summer the most enforced stretch of road in the US. You know what the result of this change is? Despite having been one much of my life, I now find "18 footers"which is people who will risk life and limb to get one car length ahead to be idiots. They really don't gain that much if anything but lose a hell of a lot and I'm not talking tickets. Driving like that is stressful as hell and stress will take your butt out just as fast as a bullet will. Take if from an old guy who damn near wrote the book on stress screwing you up. We pay for the sins of our youth in our old age and its not "Oh shat, my wife is leaving me" that's going to kill us but staring at that damn watch. G, You've already had heart problems pal. Pay the damn ticket and slow the hell down. If you have a need for speed, buy yourself a damn toy vehicle and turn speed into an escape rather than a stress creator. Neil buddy, don't even get me started on you. Try the GPS thing, watch that ETA, and you'll find you can make record times getting from point A to point B without all the stress and crazy shat. Its like all things in the outlaw world, you don't have to be a saint, you just have to be better then the other guy. Let him get the tickets. alpo
That guy gave you a big break. A 30 over ticket would have really cost you. I haven't had a ticket in quite a while. Over ten years ago, maybe 15. That was in the big truck and not speeding but an "in-proper lane movement" is what he said. He said I swerved too much but I think the wind just caught me wrong or something, but he had his mind made up to give me a ticket so didn't argue the fact. That was up in Indiana near Michigan City. Same deal as someone else said. I sent in the fine in the mail and never heard nothing about it again.
Srgt. Hulka
$100? You got off light G. I think the minimum around here is WAY over that. I've been real lucky. The last three times I've been pulled over for speeding, I just got a verbal warning. I truly believe it was because I handed the officers my license and my CC permit right up front.
