Removing front sight question

Recommended Posts

Iirc, the pins holding the old style (a2?) front sight base are one way only. Am I correct,  and can someone refresh my memory as to which way to drive them out?

Thanks.

Yes, I believe you are correct.  Question is this a stock factory built rifle?  Some pins are tapered so depending on the direction the previous person put them in could change things.  Link below has a pretty good review of how to remove, lots of pictures and list of available tools.

Normally only one direction (left to right) with tapered pins but I've seen both. Tap on the smaller end.

Don't literally tap them; knock the crap out of them initially to "free" them. BFH and appropriate punch.
