redbarron06
Well it look like I have another deployment coming up. This time for a year. Southwest border again. Guarding a fence or bank what ever will be in my sector. Good news is right now it looks like it will be in TX. For me the worst thing that could have happened would have been cali for a year. Thats like a prison sentence. Gonna get to take toys. Gonna take lots of toys. Several shooters in the unit and we are all taking toys. Damn the money I am going to go through in ammo if I can find it.
MontanaLon
I wouldn't sweat it. If biden gets elected the border will be declared open so no need to guard it. Not to mention ammo will look positively abundant now compared to then.

Sweat it hell, I can't wait. yea the time away from my family will suck, especially away from my dog, but I more than double my income, I always have a great time and I like having a mission every day and not just going into work to earn a check. I'm going with a great group of guys and come hell or high water we are determined to have a good time. Now if I end up in cali I have the personal goal of being banned from the state. They might arrest me within 5 minutes of the blades stopping. I am going to have a dozen shirts made that will do nothing but piss of liberals. And then I will have a coffee put with "Liberal Tears" on the side of it.

The grandkids would be whole new people. You better make sure the wife does not see that "especially from my dog" comment . If you want me to come down and pick up the dog, you can go over the training protocol with me. I'm thinking you have a special kind of Labrador ( A canoe dog ?) but I really don't remember. If it is a GSD, I'll be down tomorrow...I am so ready for another dog my ears are bleeding, so taking care for a year the breed really does not matter. I will make sure your dog gets the love, training, and exercise it needs, along with the brain stimulation it needs. I love dogs. Still arguing with the wife...she does not want another GSD, and that is all I want. Finding someone who is breeding to the old time size and weight breed standards of GSD's is very difficult. Wife is thinking we are not getting any younger and with back problems we are just asking for trouble. I remind her I had the last one trained to heel, come, sit, down, stay, etc off lead. I used to take her to campus to work with her, as there were all kinsd of open spaces, thinks I could use for agility training, and lot's of open spaces. Used to have people stop and watch when i was working her with hand signals at a distance. Caley loved it. Lord, I loved that dog. I swear their were times she "talked" to me, but that was just the two of us being able to read each other. We had a volunteer at the PD who had two GSD's who were alone most of the day, and were completely dominant over her. Not even leash trained. One actually separated the woman's shoulder tugging so hard at the leash. We talked about it, and I was supposed to come out and start training the dogs. I guess with the shoulder surgery, she had enough. She gave the dogs to a friend who owned a farm. I was glad for the dogs to at least be able to run. Was not happy they were most likely going to go on without discipline. People don't understand that dogs need pack leaders, and, like children, they actually do much better with discipline than without. Not having rules or a pack leader makes them nervous. It is unnatural for them. Working breeds need to have a purpose in life, whether it is carrying their own food and water on a hike/comping, or fetching a ball for 20 minutes a day, and going over basic commands. The link and love between a man and his dog is one of life's great simple pleasures, and one of the most fascinating phenomenons in the animal kingdom. IMHO. I know some stuff is secret, but please let us know when you ship out. I'm really glad you get to bring toys. Sweet !

Nothing really secret about it but there is some sensitive info such as numbers and of course when we down down there operational ready rates the zones we are working and stuff. We go on active status on 1Oct and we'll be until 30 sep 21. As far as family, yea we can take leave and come home but we aint going to Iraq, I can also fly the family out there. Which I intend to do at last once. When I was in Mcallen in April it was only 175 round trip from BNA per person. Once we figure out just where we are going I will have to figure out how to get my truck out there. As the lead crew chief I will be more than likely required to fly out with the aircraft. My truck of course will have the fun toys. I am working a plan but it will depend on how many folks they let drive. I have a a couple of good friends that are going and if they don't drive they can drive mine and one we may even rant a car hauler and he can pull his with mine. The dog is an Aussie. I can't tell you how much I would recommend them especially if you have the time to spend with them. Very intelligent, unique personalities, loving and loyal. I have seen some studies that they may be as intelligent as a human 3 year old. I know mine is close. She listens better than my daughter did at 3. Our BN will have the entire border from Pine Vally CA to McAllen TX. How we are breaking up and where individuals and units are is still up in the air. Our hope is south central and south east Tx. Laredo, Mcallen areas. I don't mind that part of TX at all and I am already scouting out shooting facilities. Don't know if I'll be able to find any long range stuff but I will find some pistol/carbine work in the area.

redbarron06
Well today they told us the plan right now is Mcallen or Laredo. This makes me happy.
redbarron06
Flew with commander tonight and while he was almost brain dead from all of the tele-meetings today, he was positive about how the situation was developing. We still don't know about housing, and several other things but BN is not micro-managing us and we are making out own decisions.
wish2no
Sounds like you are hyped up for a great trip. I always liked Laredo. You will have a blast out there... shoot you some wild hogs and have BBQ every night! You take care!

Everything was closed. I'd like to see the place open and things normal. See the sights, get out and meet some folks. Eat at the local places. When I do these trips that is the stuff I am into. Some of the folks go on these and they are like "lets go to Texas Roadhouse" and I'm like "no, lets check out some local place. Another cool thing is that the CO and I were talking last night and he is bringing or buying a couple of guns. He wants to take a couple of classes and maybe even do a small competition or two. HELL YEA. I'm down. Told him I had already been scouting out ranges and clubs even if I have to get a one year membership to do some regular shooting. While I could take my Dillon with everything to crank out all the 9 and 45 I could shoot I may just look at a inexpensive press when I get there and not worry about moving mine. But you can shoot them most anywhere. BUT.... BBQ!!! Man, you are in BBQ territory! If you get a chance go to Rudys, Brisket and Beer Smokehouse and Ringos. Thats just to mention a couple. I would like to spend about 3 months there just checking out the BBQ joints. You will have a blast (no pun intended!).

Its not big enough for a brisket but I might get something like an electric down there. I am one of those leaders that will cook for my guys a lot. Gonna try to pick a day of the week where we all get tougher and chow down. I can get a $200 griddle from Sams and do breakfast or philly cheese steaks for my guys. Taking care of the troops is a big thing for me. With any deployment there is a certain amount of suck, even this one but the3 suck can be very much minimized. Gonna stop on the way down at Buck-ees and get one of those crawfish boilers because we will be close enough to the gulf we can get some good shrimps and I am hope some mud bugs too in the spring. gshayd
I believe that Trump will get four more years....and you will be gone on an excursion. We stayed at a hotel last time I went TDY. It had a regular fridge and a stove/micowave and grill. I cooked for myself everyday and took sandwiches for lunch $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in my pocket. My plans are to hit the local places 2 maybe 3 times a week when I first get there to kinda get it out of my system. Then it will drop to about once a week maybe. Maybe something like Ihop after shift at 4 AM. I'll do a lot of my own cooking and cooking for my guys if the schedule allows for us all to get together. I have some pet projects I want to enhance and get some bills paid off. Probably won't do a lot of spending other than ammo. Want to shoot on a regular basis. Especially after shooting this 2 gun today. I got the bug again and I am way behind the power curve from where I should be on marksmanship. Warlike
I'd say pop on up but that's a minimal 6 hour drive, we do have a range with a 400yd but I haven't checked it out yet
