Recondo 101
At 07:30 hours on February 19, 1945 my uncle CB, Curtis Boyd, landed on the black volcanic ash beach at Iwo Jima. Within one month 30,000 troops would be dead. CB would survive Iwo and go on to fight on Okinawa. He got out of the Marines in 46. He had a family, became a building contractor in St Petersburg, FL and City Council member. Died in 1972. His 3 brothers served in the US Navy. Hugh on the Crusier Cincinatti, Ken on an armed freighter, a convoy escort in the north Atlantic, Ray as a Hudson bomber pilot flying anti sub patrols in the north Atlantic. All the brothers returned at war's end.
