This just in : I am an idiot!

Recommended Posts

I thought you needed a special 7.62x39 lower to build a 7.62x39 AR...

(see topic title again)

So now... I am getting all hot and bothered for a new upper... :gun3:

Having just read through GA's mag thread, I am wondering how hard it will be to find mags though...

I'll have to start looking at prices :shifty:

You guys all suck!@

Nearly impossible to find mags from the way it seems. I think GA only has one that works reliably if I remember right.

Did you get 7.62x39 and x51 confused or something?

Yes--I have 1 Frankenmag that works very well. It's a USA brand, and unfortunately, they aren't making them any longer. If you read my thread, you know that CProducts is making 7.62x39 mags now. They just recently released 5 and 10 rd magazines (I haven't tried them since the Frankenmag works so well) and they're shooting for late December for the 30 rd mags.

For what it's worth, you can get 6 or 7 7.62 rounds to work in a standard 20rd .223 mag, but any more than that and you'll get feed problems.

CB, I highly endorse building one! There's a noticable difference in recoil, but it is still pleasant to shoot and pretty darn accurate too. (WAY more accurate than my AK)

Ahhh I didn't know Cproducts had them on the market yet, only 10 rounds but I guess several 10 rnders are better than just one standard cap mag.

Naw, I saw the AR lowers that take the AK mags and thought that was the only option.

I was looking around on that other site and the franken-mags go for around $50 a pop!

I am thinking I may order up, I can get a Del-ton complete flat-top upper for about $440 - inlcudes Bolt and CH and everything....

I can use the 20 rounders a bit, and I know DPMS makes some plastic 10 rounders as well...

Then I can always get some ugly franken-mags if I really like the platform with 7.62...

Darn you people making me spend money....

Now I just have to wait till I get my money back from that AK I tried to buy.... :bill:

and ya'll have to remember that until I can get out of the Socialist Republic of NY... I am stuck with 10 rounders from new C products anyways...

Though I am thinking the Franken-mags are probly pre-ban...

Man... pre-ban... things are getting rough... Stuff now has to be FOURTEEN years old....

ah well... I have a decent stock up for what I need :gun3:

True. I honestly cannot imagine what it's like to have restrictions like that. Takes me 10 minutes to buy whatever firearm I want besides NFA stuff. I know you guys find ways around some things but it would just be a complete an utter foreign concept to me, especially since I wasn't into Ar's during the ban.

does anyone here have the time, resources, and knowledge to work on how to make a normal mag work with 7.62x39, efficiently?

If you take a steel body 20 rd straight mag, cut the bottom off. Cut the top off of a steel AK mag, and spot weld them together using the AK spring and follower. It isn't pretty, but it works....most of the time. A standard 20rd AR mag (straight or curved) will work reliably for 6 or 7 rounds with no modifications at all, but the aluminum body mags will swell and not fit the mag well with more than 5 or so.

 I would at least give you the price of a new one! :beerchug:

Oh and as soon as I get my money back from that stupid AK mess, assuming the del-ton one is decent quality I will buy one.

Fear not HS, the Savage will be bought in the spring when the snow goes away. The Tax refund will see to that.

I appreciate that, but what kind of friend would I be to let you suffer with 10rd mags? It's the Merry F'n Christmas season.....if the CProducts mags work, you'll get a late present from me

(it'll make up for all those ammo cans I never shipped to you....sorry about that by the way. I found a use for them :eekout: )
