1911 conversion questions

Recommended Posts

Hello all, New to the 10mm just got a S&W 1006 and like it very much but being an old 1911 guy, would like to have one in 10. Is the breech face the same as the 45ACP? or is a different slide required? Has any one converted a Para Ord double stack to 10? are there mags, for the Para, or can the 45 mags be modified to work with the 10mm round?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hello.

Here are some basic answers to your questions.

Yes, the 10mm uses a smaller breechface than the 45.

Yes, You need a different slide. (9mm 38 Super can be made to work.)

There have been may conversions of the Para double stack. Start wirth a 40 S&W, ream the barrel to 10mm, replace the mainspring & recoil spring with heavier versions. That will get you started, you can fine tune from there. Para 40S&W mags work fine with the 10mm.

Check out the Dan Wesson offerings in 10mm if you want a 1911. Fusion fireams makes some dandys also. The Para 40 conversion is the only way I know to get a double stack, but it's a fairly simple conversion.

Good Luck!

The 10mm uses the same slide as the .40.

STI .40 converted (or built) to 10mm would be twice the gun that a Para would be. I'm not fond of Para's QC, finishes or PXT extractors. I building two STI's right now and it would take $20 and 20 minutes to make them 10mm instead of .40.
