This has been shooting around 1.5 at 300 yards. The wild hogs here in West Texas never hear it coming. Are you shooting them in the head or in the chest area? I've been trying to figure out a round that will work well on the pigs we have here in Louisiana. Some of them are pretty big and I know a 223 ain't getting through that plate. I do know it will work fine shooting them just behind the ear, though!
THESPECIALIST 0 Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) A couple 45 ACP loads that I worked up: Target Load Hornady 200gr LSWC .452" Dia Mixed Cases-WCC, R-P, Speer, TZZ Match Hodgdon HS-6 7.5gr CCI LP Primers COL-1.190" The most accurate target load I have for my RIA 1911. Palm sized 25yd groups with no flyers. Mild recoil, very fast back on target. A little dirty and a little smoky, but it's cheap to shoot SD Load (once I get to chrono it) Hornady 230gr XTP/HP .451" Dia. Starline +P Cases Hodgdon Longshot 6.8gr CCI LP Primers COL-1.200" THIS IS A MAX LOAD ACCORDING TO HODGDON FOR A BULLET WITH LESS BEARING SURFACE THAN THE XTP AND IS LOADED .030" SHORTER THAN RECOMMENDED BY HORNADY. APPROACH WITH CAUTION! I used the +P cases for a little extra insurance. No pressure signs in MY gun. This is definitely a full house 230gr load. Recoil is very stiff, but not that bad. Follow up shots can be made fairly quickly once you are used to the recoil. My RIA 1911 throws these into 2" groups at 15yds consistently when I do my part.
