srouse2822
Hello all well after waiting for a week or so I finally got my 1006. GOOD LORD its a boat anchor. But Damn I love it. I cannot wait to go shoot it. I am not sure how old it is it has a start on the serial as TEVXXXX. This is the first gun I have had with a 5in Barrel. Nothing about this thing is tiny. I changed out the Hogue Grips for a set of NEW factory. I have a Bianchi S3 holster with it that fits like a glove. You may think I am crazy but I want to use it as a CCW. Anyone else out there that can share some best practices of the 1006 I would be greatfull. Glad I fond this site, have a good week all of you Scott

TaosGlock
Congrats! Just went out today and shot some hand loaded Silvertips thru mine. These babys handle all loads with aplomb and is the softest recoiling 10 I own...and I own a few. TG

Mine weighs about 48 oz fully loaded, which is just a few ounces more than a full-size 1911. With the factory grips, they're pretty thin, too. I carry mine in a Kramer Belt Scabbard, usually in the winter months, when it's a little easier to cover up. I always feel very adequately armed. Date-wise, mine is TEUXXXX and shipped in February 1990, so yours should be very close to that.

mikeythehitman
Welcometo the site! I have 2 1006's. One I shoot and the other has only been test fired, so it wont be shot any time soon.
Liftrat
Yeah, it IS a bit of a boat anchor, but I'd rather have a gun that's a little overbuilt than one that falls apart in a short time. Congrats on your S&W; I think you'll have a blast with it!.
oak1971
Pics? Why did they quit making them?
JCole
Pics? Why did they quit making them? Some combination of flagging sales and production costs.
Alden
I admit I did not know you were talking about a semiauto 10mm, so I Googled it and day-um! Nice pistole, good luck carrying that one concealed! Not saying it can't be done, guys carry full sized 1911s concealed all the time, but it's a challenge! Bozz10mm
Well, congrats on getting that 1006. It's age is gonna be between 20 and 23 years old. If you are not going to reload, get some of the full power ammo from Underwood or Georgia Arms. Then you will realize the full potential and beauty of shooting a 1006. If it hasn't been fired much, the recoil spring is probably still ok. Think about replacing the spring every 3000 to 5000 rounds. The factory springs are 18lb and that should be able to handle even high powered loads. Well, what we call high powered loads are actually what this gun was built for. Most of the factory stuff is pretty mild, but this gun was built around a 170gr, 1400fps round. I went ahead and put a 20lb Wolff spring in mine. Be careful when you field strip it. Even the factory spring is pretty stiff and if you don't get the retaining rod back in that little notch correctly, it will pop out before you get the slide back on. Ouch. I started using a leather glove on my right hand. Makes it much easier. If you are not familiar with the 3rd gen s&Ws, there will be three spring loaded "tabs" towards the rear of the frame that you will have to depress one at time as put the slide back on. One more thing, get a few extra mags for it. Midway has them in stock for around $34.00, which is about 7 bucks less than Smith & Wesson sells them for. Oh crap. Never mind, I just realized this is a four year old post. Edited July 2, 2013 by Bozz10mm
